The Scanner: So much Internet, so little time
There's a lot of stuff on the Internet. Luckily some of you spend as much time looking through the good and the bad as I do.
And that's how we end up with The Scanner.
Even after my story today, do you need more proof that cell phones will soon dominate us all? Amazon.com's new TextBuyIt service, that allows you to browse and buy items by text message.
While I don't follow the NHL as closely as I used to (back when Stars were in the NORTH and not in Texas), but this list comparing NHL coaches to Star Wars characters is great! (Thanks to NXT reader and fellow blogger Rachel).
This one's for Videoport Jones - The A.V. Club has an interview with Amy Poehler. Enjoy.
Interesting news for the singles out there: The Boston Globe has a map of the best cities for single women and single men.
Define irony: University of Texas at San Antonio wrote a code of honor...that was slightly plagiarized. That is most excellent. (Hat tip: The Lede)
Haven't we see this before: Want a dog but not all the hassle? Rent it. Any dog breed you like! That is if you live in Tokyo. The Japanese have an answer for everything. And usually it's a little creepy. (Hat tip: Boing Boing)
The Musical Astronaut has found more aural delights: Muxtape.com - a site that lets you create online mixtapes. Not entirely practical, but fun in a social networking sort of way. (Hat tip to Dylan Martin)
We all know by now that DMX is flat-out crazy. Sack of hammers crazy, right? Drowned in Sound found an interview the ruff rider did with XXL, where he complains about the police and demonstrates he doesn't read a lot of news. Like any news. (Note - because it's DMX this interview is littered with naughty language. Be advised.) (Thanks to NXT reader Amanda)
Bloggers as the secret weapon? Wired uncovers a report from the U.S. Army that suggests recruiting or hiring bloggers to spread messages. Creepy.
Like This American Life? You’ll probably want to get your tickets to see This American Life Live, broadcast via satellite to theaters across the U.S. that includes Brunswick and Rockland.
Rickrolling someone on April 1 is funny, putting a fake death notice in the Washington Post for your best friend is not. (Hat tip: Romenesko)
This week in bacon: Yes, that's right. A sweet chocolate cake with bacon frosting. It's all coming together people. (Thanks to NXT reader Grace)
This story is a little old, but still interesting: The next frontier for hipsters is farming. Hipsters...when will you learn? Of interest - John Bliss and Stacey Brenner, who run the Broadturn Farm in Scarborough. (Hat tip: Rabelais Book Blog)
Radiohead keeps pushing forward with online music - this week releasing their new single "Nude" for remix by fans through programs like GarageBand or Logic Pro.
NBC got the jump on releasing its fall schedule this week, with good news and weird news: "Friday Night Lights" will return, "Knight Rider" is returning to TV, and "The Office" will have a spin-off of some sort. All I can say is network TV is just weird. (Hat tip: The Watcher)
