The Scanner: "Would You Eat It?" Edition

For some reason this week's Scanner has more than a few food items. Further proof no one should blog while hungry.

Good to know if you're in a hearing at the State House in Augusta and your cell goes off legislators will make you pay. Isn't this why people start petition drives?

It's been everywhere this week and multiple people have pointed it out, but I too fail to feel hunger thanks to cheeseburger in a can. Thank you Switzerland. Thanks for nothing.

You may hate yourself in the morning, but you'll feel like a winner with beer cheese cupcakes for the Super Bowl party.

Speaking of food, NXT reader and fellow blogger/colleague Rachel knows of my devotion to all things bacon and points us to the bacon bloody mary. Though I am not a big fan of the beverage, this could change my opinion.

The blob that ate Lewiston. This one's for NXT reader Reāl, who feels more should be done to combat this menace.

I...uh...wow. Someone apparently made a Charles Barkley role playing video game. Read that again. Don't believe me? Check the trailer on the link. Don't believe that, go to the YouTubes. Wow.

Speaking of geekery, tell me who wouldn't want these interlocking Pac Man lights. Don't lie, you know you want it. (Hat tip: Engadget)

And yet more geekery. How funny is this classic Super Nintendo commercial featuring Paul Rudd?

How is it possible no one patented smart phones until now? (Hat tip: Slashdot)

Give it up to Memphis Grizzlies forward Rudy Gay for asking the public for slam dunk contest submissions on YouTube. Maybe this will make it more watchable this year. Maybe.

L.A. (NOT Lewiston/ Auburn) officially has vending machines that dispense pot. Let the one liners commence.

Were you aware Wednesday was International Delete Your MySpace Account Day. Not sure why you would need a day to do it, but some people do. (Thanks to NXT reader AC, who is all over the "dangers of MySpace" beat the last two weeks.)

I'm not too sure about the movie, but I just can't stop staring at this picture of Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly. It's strangely mesmerizing. (Hat tip: Pop Candy)

Meanwhile, if Seth MacFarlane's take on the screenwriter's strike is
accurate things could be better at the negotiating table. (NOTE: clip contains "salty" language. May want to wear headphones.)

Justin is a former newspaper intern and has the scar tissue to prove it. Justin has been a staff writer for the Portland Press Herald/Maine Sunday Telegram since 2003, and in 2004 began writing a weekly column in the Monday Magazine.

If he had to pick a label, the column would fall under "youth culture," covering everything from high school dance etiquette, dealing with college debt, the resurgence of Roller Derby and Portland's one-of-a-kind music scene. This of course has not stopped him from answering letters to Santa Claus or writing about his experience riding shotgun in a drift car.

Justin is an export from the Midwest. He is a graduate of the University of Missouri and is originally from Minnesota. He enjoys bacon, cheap beer, redheads, Burt Reynolds jokes and wondering what the soundtrack to his life would sound like.

When he grows up he wants to be an international art thief. Or Captain America.

Until then he'll be bringing you dispatches about "the young people" and what they do.
