A pint and politics on CraigsList
Obviously you can find a lot of things on CraigsList, and as anyone who has read Best of CraigsList knows, it is often hilarious.
But it's interesting to note among all the postings looking for new bass players and vocalist, or babysitters and kittens, you'll find a serious political undercurrent.
Ron Paul supporters looking to mobilize for the caucus, operatives for other candidates sniping at Florida Republican primary winner Arizona Sen. John McCain, and a healthy dose of Democrat smack talk...it's all there.
Of course you'll also find the location of a happy hour for Hillary Clinton supporters tonight.
Or at least you could have yesterday. The posting got pulled apparently, which is odd considering how much inflammatory stuff seems to make it's way onto CraigsList.
What you would have found is an interesting new spin on whipping votes and support. The Happy "to caucus for Hillary" Hour at Slainte, was advertised as a way to find out more about the New York senator, meet other supporters and find ways to help in the up coming caucus.
And let's not forget, "Free Snacks! $3.00 beers & $6.00 glasses of wine."
Sure this is not something entirely new as The League of Young Voters has made it almost standard policy to throw a party when they need to rally the ground forces, usually with good results.
But it's interesting to see campaigns trying to break down some of the perceived walls to getting involved in politics, especially in search of the always elusive "young voter."
Who needs and Sports Center when you've got beer, health care policy and economic stimulus talk?
We'll keep you posted on any word of cocktail parties and keggers from the Obama, McCain, Romney and Huckabee camps.

I am a big fan (peripherally, of course) of the group "Drinking Liberally". A friend of mine here in New York went to a bar she thought they were at. She's Jamaican and speaks with a thick, Jamaican accent. She went around the bar, asking people if they'd heard of "Drinking Liberally" and many laughs ensued. Anyway, I like the idea of it and if the idea of self-righteous liberals, slightly intoxicated and talking about the woes of the world, didn't conceivably drive me out of my mind, I'd show up. Either way, I am a huge fan of folks who know that that socialize through alcohol anyway, so at least try to kill as many birds (at least one being socially and politically conscious) as possible.
