Wouldn't you know it, we've made it to the end of yet another week and here we find ourselves thinking of what to do this weekend. Hmmm.
I'd say this multiple choice all end up with the same conclusion...
a.) Catch some dynamite live shows
b.) Throw a repeal day party
c.) Shop at your own risk
...having a relaxing drink.
FRIDAY
It's First Friday, so make sure to grab your puffy coat before heading out tonight. Among the many possibilities tonight is the Free For All Exhibition at SPACE. That was a shameless plug for the podcast at your right. Just in case you didn't notice. Hint hint.
Bullyclub follows up last week's CD release with a show tonight over at the North Star Cafe. Ten years making music, the group's latest effort is appropriately titled "Tenure." If you've got $5 (and who doesn't?) you can get in. Show starts at 8 p.m.
Gut check time – it's another Friday night and Geno's is promising another weekend of absurd amounts of heavy rock, beginning with Ogre, Eldemur Krimm and Revelation tonight at 10 p.m. You make the call.
Looking for another direction to go? Try Amigos, where The Pubcrawlers and The Hot Tarts are mixing things up starting around 10 p.m.
SATURDAY
If you've got a few bucks to spare for a good cause, don't forget tonight is the benefit for the Meg Perry Center. Big Blood, Visitations, and Cursillistas are on the line up card, and it's a $5 – $10 donation. Show starts at 8 p.m.
The wizards of pop–funk have returned from their far flung travels for a show tonight. Miss Fairchild is performing at the Big Easy along with Apple Betty. The gang has been steadily on the road since early fall pimping the newest album, "Vanilla Place." Always a high–energy favorite, expect this show to be packed. It's a $7 entry, show starts at 9 p.m.
Back at SPACE tonight for a different kind of vibe, Erin McKeown is stopping through town. The talented Ms. McKeown draws big crowds so expect the SPACE to be buzzing.Tickets are $12 at the door, which open at 9 p.m.
ALL AGES ALERT – at (where else?) The Station. Cambiata, Killing Moon and Why Hello will be tonight's entertainment offering. Do show appreciation. Ticket are $10 and as always doors at 7 p.m.
Finally here's your video of the week to send things off. You know, we all talk about giving back to our community. But others do it. And we call those people celebrities. I heart you Judd Apatow. I suspect the only way Mr. Videoport Jones could enjoy this clip more is if Vanessa Redgrave showed up.
Justin is a former newspaper intern and has the scar tissue to prove
it. Justin has been a staff writer for the Portland Press Herald/Maine
Sunday Telegram since 2003, and in 2004 began writing a weekly column in the
Monday Magazine.
If he had to pick a label, the column would fall under "youth culture,"
covering everything from high school dance etiquette, dealing with college
debt, the resurgence of Roller Derby and Portland's one-of-a-kind music
scene. This of course has not stopped him from answering letters to Santa
Claus or writing about his experience riding shotgun in a drift car.
Justin is an export from the Midwest. He is a graduate of the University of
Missouri and is originally from Minnesota. He enjoys bacon, cheap beer,
redheads, Burt Reynolds jokes and wondering what the soundtrack to his life
would sound like.
When he grows up he wants to be an international art thief. Or Captain
America.
Until then he'll be bringing you dispatches about "the young people" and
what they do.
