The Scanner: Looking for a diversion?
I know most of you are in full-fledge Thanksgiving & family mode, which as they say is the reason for the season.
Still, I'm a firm believer in the power of moderation – in food, booze and family, especially this week. So if you're looking for a few minutes diversion, here it is.
Zipped out Last month I wrote about Zipcar coming to Maine, leapfrogging Portland and heading to Bates College and the University of Maine. Now it seems the program may not be living up to early expexctations at Umaine.
Ray, when someone asks you if you're a god, you say yes! I don't think you have to be a gamer to love hearing this news - more than 20 years after the first movie hit theaters, a new Ghostbusters video game is in the works. What's even better is that all the actors are coming back to add their likenesses and voices, and Harold Ramis and Dan Aykroyd will be writing it as if it were a sequel. Check out this clip of gameplay footage...complete with an appearance from Staypuff!
Circumcision Jokes Someone got hold of the entire Werewolf Bar Mitzvah song, minus the music video. Still hilarious.
He's not acting, is he? Here's Tracy Jordan, er, Morgan, during what can only be a live news promo gone off the rails. Somehow I think this makes Tina Fey look
like a genius.
Victimless Crime Finally, some grafitti that business owners won't complain about! Check out
light graffiti - which uses a series of lights and camera tricks to get excellent results. (Thanks to NXT reader Réal)
Talk about courage This may be more suited for Rachel over at Varsity Blues, but I had to pass it on: Check out this story on an Ohio high school long distance runner who broke her leg during a race, just 45 feet from the finish line...and crawled to the finish. Wow. (Hat tip: RandBall)
Again with the teen sex? Apparently a recent study at the University of Virginia says teens who have consensual sex are less likely to become delinquents. I'm sure that will go over well. Here's the round up of headlines at BuzzFeed.
Nice work Peacock network Remember the whole "NBC is too good for iTunes and YouTube" thing? Well last week the launched their video download service, and so far the the response has not been good.
His humor is wonderland The interwebs is an awful, awful place. There is no greater evidence of this than the re-emegence of disturbing video of two girls doing things that we won't and can't go into detail about here. But, here's a funny video by John Mayer parodying the whole thing. Trust me, if you really want to know what I am talking about, you can use the Google. But you'll most likely be sorry.
