Poll watching and a mini scanner
It's been a busy week here at NXT, what with all the Democracy in action, late nights, meat pies and cocktails.
Wait, that's another story entirely.
Anyway, I haven't been around blog-town much this week, and for that I apologize. Not that anyone's looking forward to a daily dose of NXT, but what good is this thing if I don't update it regularly?
A few things today:
Keep an eye out for a new podcast shortly. This week I have a sit down with Mike Clouds to talk about his hosting duties for the Wepushbuttons Awards this Saturday. It's a good listen, and as always, edu-tainmental. Or something like that.
Thanks to Mr. Clouds for coming by the NXT studios for a chat, and providing us with some music for this week's show.
As always, if you have an idea a show or new segment, want to showcase your music or have other suggestions, e-mail me or IM at JustinNXT.
With the polls set to close today on the fate of my face, the beard is doing strong with 65 percent of the vote. The 'stache was doing well earlier in the week but has fallen into second place with 33 percent of the vote. You can still vote today.
Finally, I would be remiss if I did not pass along a little Internet goodness before I go.
Know your handshake Sure there are plenty of ways to blow an interview. Wearing a bad suit. Bad breath. Mentioning your hatred of Jewish people. But none so bad as a weak handshake. SHAKE LIKE A MAN if you want that job. (Thanks to NXT reader Alex)
Extra Credit A University of Maine professor may or may not have made the case for flag burning for extra credit as an exercise in free speech. More than a few students are not happy about it.
Brain gains The trend of young adults ditching New England may be turning around. The number of people 25 -34 in Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont seems to be increasing.
They will own you one way or another Google took the spotlight this week for the announcement of its partnerships to create a alliance of cell phone companies and wireless carriers. Now more than ever Google is showing they are not messing around with this whole global domination thing.
Here's Engadget's full coverage of the android open-source cell phone platform.
Agent Mars Thanks to the goodness of the Inter-webs, the pilot of the fourth season (or new season/new show) of Veronica Mars is online. Sigh. Another good show gone to pasture. (Hat tip: Pop Candy)
Zealotry Here's a fun read. Wired Magazine recently had two pieces, one on Apple's iPhone, the other on Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul. They got attacked for both. Who has the more fanatical following? You decide.
Gotta go make journalism happen. Back with more tomorrow. I think.
*UPDATE* The NXT Podcast is up and running. Have a listen!
