The Fate of the Stache

So I'm a day off on the decision over the fate of Le 'Stache. What can I say, I had a busy day down here at Press Herald Plaza, and I am only one man, people! One MAN!

Circumstances being what they are, I thought I would put things up to a vote once again. It all started that way so it seemed fitting to go out that way.

Here at NXT we believe in Democracy first and foremost ... after one nation under Bacon.

ANYWAY, as I see it the choices are thus: back to status quo with the beard, going completely clean shaven, or keeping the 'stache for a little while longer.

It's been a strange journey with the 'stache. At first it was nothing but weird looks and jokes, but after a while it's become an accepted part of my life. I am a mustached American and proud of it.

Maybe it was the passing of Mr. G, or the fact that I've been listening to Sammy Davis Jr. all morning, (long story. It started with a YouTube search for Candyman ... and that's another YouTube clip for another day)but the thought of keeping ol' stachey around for a little while longer is not as far-fetched an idea as it would have been two months ago.

Also, it turns out November has its own Mustache-related activities.

So it is up to you, voting public. Exercise your right a little earlier than Nov. 6. The poll will be up until Nov. 8.

Stop back later for today for the weekend links.

Dude, I like a good 'stache as much as the next guy, but I've got to vote for a full beard.

Sorry!

It's nothing personal, but they're pretty tough to pull off. Darn that Burt Reynolds and Jason Lee who make it look so easy!

Justin is a former newspaper intern and has the scar tissue to prove it. Justin has been a staff writer for the Portland Press Herald/Maine Sunday Telegram since 2003, and in 2004 began writing a weekly column in the Monday Magazine.

If he had to pick a label, the column would fall under "youth culture," covering everything from high school dance etiquette, dealing with college debt, the resurgence of Roller Derby and Portland's one-of-a-kind music scene. This of course has not stopped him from answering letters to Santa Claus or writing about his experience riding shotgun in a drift car.

Justin is an export from the Midwest. He is a graduate of the University of Missouri and is originally from Minnesota. He enjoys bacon, cheap beer, redheads, Burt Reynolds jokes and wondering what the soundtrack to his life would sound like.

When he grows up he wants to be an international art thief. Or Captain America.

Until then he'll be bringing you dispatches about "the young people" and what they do.
