A mild Wednesday
This one has to be quick friends. The demands of Lady Journalism are...demanding. Also, I am a little under the weather. Perhaps all this mustache growing is draining me.
If so, the only cure is red meat, cheap beer and a viewing of "Smokey and the Bandit" followed by "Over The Top."
Only a few hours of voting left in The 'Stache is Right poll. Make sure to get in your vote soon. We'll have the results tomorrow in a special two-hour long edition of "The Situation Room." And remember you can always get more info on 'Stache growing at The Great Stache Off.
A few quick hits for today:
- Tomorrow over at Geno's is a benefit show for PartnerJamaica starts at 9 p.m. On the bill for tonight is Samuel James, Meantone, Why Hello and Phantom Buffalo, all for a $5 ticket. A solid line-up, indeed, but also a chance to give a little cash to a cause. In this case, that would be the rebuilding of schools destroyed during this summer's hurricane season.
Did I mention it's only $5? Three great bands?
As NXT reader (and benefit organizer) Alex would say "if people don't come, they really didn't care about the hurricane. they're just emotional-posers."
So, you got that going for you, which is nice.
- Coming up Monday Say It Loud is getting ready to begin a whole new 10 week session. The program, a part of Add Verb Productions, invites young women to express themselves through spoken word and hip-hop by working with local rappers, DJs and dancers.
Over the last several years the program has experienced ups and downs and seen the numbers in the group dwindle. Earlier this year the program was jump started under Add Verb.
It's a 10 week program, which not only promises you a little face time with some of the best local hip-hop artists, but also culminates in a few performances around Portland.
Ladies (age 15 -19) if you're interested, make sure to check out their MySpace or stop by 1 Longfellow Square on Monday starting at 3:30 p.m.
To top things off, a few questions for today to get the comments going (COTW title on the line!):
1.) If you had to create a benefit show for something, what would it be? Like the Derek Zoolander Center for Kids Who Can't Read Good?
2.) Who would you ask to headline?
3.) Is there such a thing as too many benefits?
Lastly, don't forget to send me your Internet goodies for The Scanner tomorrow. E-mail me or IM at JustinNXT.

speaking of too many benefits, how come nobody seems to care about that art on decks scam? that old dude pulled the biggest grift on kids since sea monkeys. all those kids thought they were painting decks to help get the skatepark built, people have given money, bands played for free, etc etc.
truth is, dude has no plans to give the money to the city. his plan is to open a skate shop to compete with ride 207 and sunny breeze and build a "skatepark" in his store or something. so the "benefit" was just to fund his start-up.
at least thats what i heard.
