Last (Friday) Night's Party

I figured I'd try my best to distract all of the nation from Hilton Jail Watch Day 1 (or is it Day 2?) for as long as possible, which I suppose means as long as it takes you to read this blog.

Some of you may remember last Friday's weekend blog and my musings on what to wear for an '80s extravaganza. For all my wondering I only got one response.

But, thanks to the good people at Mainetoday, my dilemma became the afternoon’s poll question:

Thanks a lot guys.

To make a long story short, '80s night was an absolute blast. It goes without saying that DJ Jon and digitaldori know how to throw a good party. But I’ve also learned some valuable lessons myself, largely, that celebrity judging is a racket I need to get in on. All that fake adulation and respect, the rush of ego, the free drinks...I want in. I want to be your Hoff.

I can only picture myself in 15 years, hosting cat beauty pageants, demanding White Russians and screaming “DO YOU KNOW WHO I AM!” or “Dr. J doesn’t PLAY!”

ANYWAY, here’s '80s night in photos. Enjoy.

"Sonny, let's nail this pig!" How could I not go with Ricardo Tubbs?

We have a winner! Jay here not only had the guts to rock the leotard, but he rocked it pretty hard and aced the '80s quiz.

Fresh off a cigarette boat from South Beach are your first runners up. We counted them as a team. Seriously, they look like they came from central casting.

Your third runner up was "Like a Virgin" Madonna. If you look closely you'll notice the homemade "Boy Toy" belt buckle.

I think it was a tie for me between the who rocked hardest, but Nikki Sixx here was pretty committed. Still, you should have seen Hulk Benatar.

Sadly the Rubik's Cube man did not place, but he got points for creativity. Wasn't the Rubik's Cube man a Batman villian?

This photo I think pretty much sums up the night. This guy could just not stop moving for the life of him, also, bonus points for the Space Camp T-shirt.

Glad we could help - it was our pleasure. Really.

As for leotard guy - that's the most disturbing picture I've ever seen. I need to go wash my eyes out with soap.

Wow... and lol. That's some quality pictures. Try not typing while wasted. "I want you be your Hoff"....
Don't you mean "I want to be your Hoff."?

And did you just say you wanted to be the Hoff? I didn't know you enjoyed eating burgers off the sidewalk....

Good times... good times...

Well, the Hoff would type while wasted...and eating floor burgers.

Correction noted.

the best part of getting old is the increasing distance from the past.

Justin is a former newspaper intern and has the scar tissue to prove it. Justin has been a staff writer for the Portland Press Herald/Maine Sunday Telegram since 2003, and in 2004 began writing a weekly column in the Monday Magazine.

If he had to pick a label, the column would fall under "youth culture," covering everything from high school dance etiquette, dealing with college debt, the resurgence of Roller Derby and Portland's one-of-a-kind music scene. This of course has not stopped him from answering letters to Santa Claus or writing about his experience riding shotgun in a drift car.

Justin is an export from the Midwest. He is a graduate of the University of Missouri and is originally from Minnesota. He enjoys bacon, cheap beer, redheads, Burt Reynolds jokes and wondering what the soundtrack to his life would sound like.

When he grows up he wants to be an international art thief. Or Captain America.

Until then he'll be bringing you dispatches about "the young people" and what they do.
