Lobster Bowl

It's that time of year again ... and more than 100 football players and coaches have congregated in Hebron for the week leading up to the 19th Maine Shrine Lobster Bowl.

The annual game showcases the top high school football graduates and raises money for the Shriners Hospitals and its burn centers in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

Among the notable names:

Jack Hersom - the quarterback graduated from Lawrence and will play football at Husson College

Justin Villacci - the running back graduated from Gorham and will play football at the University of Maine. He was a finalist for the Fitzpatrick Trophy, won by Hersom.

Darrus Grate - the running back helped Morse to its best season and also won state outdoor track titles in the 100, 200 and 1,600 relay.

Kickoff is 7:30 p.m. Friday at Waterhouse Field in Biddeford.

Rachel is in her fourth year as a sports reporter at the Portland Press Herald/Maine Sunday Telegram. A Maryland native and a former college soccer and softball player, she covered high school and college sports at newspapers in Pennsylvania, Texas and Colorado before joining the Press Herald/Sunday Telegram staff in June of 2004.

She grew up watching the NHL, the Pittsburgh Steelers, Georgetown basketball and the Baltimore Orioles and is a confessed sports nut. Her interests include reading and movies, going to the gym, Motown and '70s R&B music and following the New York City tabloids.

Married in July, she and her husband Tommy are avid Steelers and Kansas Jayhawks fans. Their toughest decision as newlyweds has been "NESN or ESPN?"
