End of the road

In his final game playing for his father, Massabesic's Tyler Morin caught three passes for 63 yards, including a 44-yard reception in the fourth quarter that helped set up the Mustangs' only touchdown Saturday in a 14-7 loss to Marshwood in a Western Class A football quarterfinal.

However, Morin, the son of Massabesic Coach John Morin, was denied on the final play of the game. Marshwood's Dustin Matthews intercepted Mustangs quarterback Jeff Elliott in the end zone, cutting off a pass that was intended for Morin.

"How do you talk about your own kid like that? He came up big for us a couple times (Saturday) but he's been around the game his whole life," said John Morin, who teared up when asked about his son's performance. "He's been on the sidelines when he was this high, he's seen guys like Jason O'Tash, Derek Eggleton and Kenny Paul, guys like that who make big plays at big times in big games. He had an opportunity to do that today.

"When we saw that ball bouncing around in the end zone on that last play, he was there and it's like, 'you can make that play, too.' But one of their kids stepped up and made a (heck) of a play."

A Maryland native and a former college soccer and softball player, she covered high school and college sports at newspapers in Pennsylvania, Texas and Colorado before joining the Press Herald/Sunday Telegram staff in June of 2004.

She grew up watching the NHL, the Pittsburgh Steelers, Georgetown basketball and the Baltimore Orioles and is a confessed sports nut. Her interests include reading and movies, going to the gym, Motown and '70s R&B music and following the New York City tabloids.

Married in July, she and her husband Tommy are avid Steelers and Kansas Jayhawks fans. Their toughest decision as newlyweds has been "NESN or ESPN?"
