Fitzpatrick watch
That's right, we're talking trophies, specifically the Fitzpatrick Trophy. It's given annually to the top senior football player in the state, and now that high school football season has passed the halfway point it may be time to consider the candidates.
Three to watch:
Justin Villacci, Gorham: Villacci has flourished in the Rams' double wing offense over the past two years; he's scored 19 touchdowns this season and has seen time at receiver.
Bass Chadwick, Gardiner: After playing junior hockey for two years, Chadwick returned to football. He and quarterback Kyle Stilphen (another likely Fitzy candidate) are the Tigers' 1-2 punch. Chadwick has rushed for 13 touchdowns in five games.
Jeff Elliott, Massabesic: Elliott has commanded the Mustangs to a 5-0 start and is a vital part of the Mustangs' spread offense as a quarterback with rushing responsibilities.
