Friday night lights and Saturday bells ...

It's Week 2 of the high school football season, and hopefully the blowout games - and there were quite a few of them last week - will taper off as the season progresses.

The PPH staff chose Deering at Westbrook as this week's "Place to Be" but there are a few matchups that provide intrigue:

Marshwood at Massabesic, 7 tonight
Last week these two teams combined to outscore opponents 79-0. Will parity and a single-digit differential reign this week?

Biddeford at Kennebunk, 7 tonight
A year ago after Biddeford eked out a 13-0 win over Kennebunk, former Tigers Coach Brian Curit explained that this rivalry was just as strong as the traditional Thornton Academy-Biddeford rivalry. Could it be another low-scoring affair?

Noble at Thornton Academy, 1:30 p.m. Saturday
The Trojans hope the bell tolls in their home opener – after each win at Hill Stadium, the school bell traditionally rings once for each point the Trojans score.

Of quotes and notes ...

The upsets continue in high school field hockey. Thursday, Mt. Blue defeated six-time Class A champion Skowhegan 1-0, as Mt. Blue goalie Amanda Deschenes stopped 19 shots.
