something new and different ...
Hi all! The school year is upon us and it’s good to have another outlet to discuss high school sports.
Just about each and every one of us has some kind of connection to high school. Whether it was the time of our life or if we absolutely hated it, we still feel a certain affinity to our alma mater, whether it’s Portland High or the rural regional school.
Part of that affinity probably involves following the sports teams, years after graduating from that school.
Heck, I still read my hometown paper to find out how the high school football team did or if my old high school softball team won.
But the average reader can only get so much out of what is in the paper every day. What about a key injury? Or how about that diving interception? Or something overheard at a football game that rings oh-so-true?
There might be a quote from a coach or an athlete that couldn’t sneak into this morning’s paper ... or something completely outrageous out there in cyberspace that deserves merit in this little corner of the virtual world. Like an athlete’s You Tube video or a ruling six states away that applies to high school sports.
I’ll keep it as local as possible, and try not to ramble on with random thoughts or have this become an out-of-control message board. On that note, please keep your bashing and name-calling to an absolute minimum. Or as a coach is apt to say, “Play hard and play fair.”
Got questions about comings and goings and happenings in high school sports? E-mail me at rlenzi@pressherald.com. I’ll choose a couple each week to answer on the bloggy-blog.
