New Lewiston hockey coach

Jamie Belleau has been named the hockey coach at Lewiston, his alma mater. Belleau previously coached at Edward Little

Belleau led Edward Little to state championships in 2003 and 2004, his first two seasons of coaching at the Auburn school.

Belleau, a 1989 Lewiston graduate, succeeds Norm Gagne, who left the program in May after coaching at Lewiston for three seasons.

A little bit of inspiration

So if you read the paper today you got to read about Carrie Holmstrom, a Massachussetts teenager who lost both of her legs below the knees and suffered burns across 70 percent of her body after a car accident two yeas ago ... and got to play soccer Sunday in the U.S. Youth Soccer Region I championships.

Definitely inspirational stuff. Whenever you think things might be rough for you, think about Carrie Holmstrom and what she's been able to do after nearly losing her life.

Check out her Web site at www.carrieholmstrom.com

Raising Winners, by Shari Young Kuchenbecker, Ph. D.

Why Johnny Hates Sports, by Fred Engh

Lessons of the Locker Room: The Myth of School Sports, by Andrew W. Miracle and Roger Rees

Sports Fans: The Psychology and Social Impact of Spectators, by Dr. Daniel Wann

Rachel is in her fourth year as a sports reporter at the Portland Press Herald/Maine Sunday Telegram. A Maryland native and a former college soccer and softball player, she covered high school and college sports at newspapers in Pennsylvania, Texas and Colorado before joining the Press Herald/Sunday Telegram staff in June of 2004.

She grew up watching the NHL, the Pittsburgh Steelers, Georgetown basketball and the Baltimore Orioles and is a confessed sports nut. Her interests include reading and movies, going to the gym, Motown and '70s R&B music and following the New York City tabloids.

Married in July, she and her husband Tommy are avid Steelers and Kansas Jayhawks fans. Their toughest decision as newlyweds has been "NESN or ESPN?"
