Playoff action

The Commonwealth Coast Conference Tournament:

• No. 1 ranked UNE Men's basketball team (19-4, 12-1 TCCC) will host No. 8 Western New England on Tuesday at 8 p.m. at the Campus Center

• The UNE women's team (19-65, 12-1) are the No. 3 seed and will host No. 6 Western New England on Tuesday at 6 p.m. at the Campus Center.

Little East Tournament:

• The No. 3 seed USM women (19-6, 9-5) women will host No. 6 Rhode Island College at 7 p.m. on Tuesday.

• The No. 8 seeded USM men (5-20, 2-12 LEC) will travel to No. 1 seed Rhode Island College for the first round tonight.

Hoops rundown

• Tune into NESN to catch the UMaine men's basketball team against New Hampshire Thursday night in Durham, N.H. at 7 p.m.

The 9-16 Black Bears, 4-8 in America East, have just four regular season games remaining before the conference playoffs.

• The 3-21 UMaine women (1-10 America East) take on Albany tonight at 7 p.m. and then have four games left in the regular season.

Maine-Syracuse football?

It looks like the University of Maine football team may wind up playing Syracuse instead of Florida State next season, according to the Maine sports information department

Maine is still officially under contract to open at Florida State, but FSU has been pursuing a game against Miami that would be nationally televised on ESPN.

Looking for a win

The University of Maine men's basketball team will attempt to snap a four-game losing streak with a 7 p.m. game tonight against UMBC at Alfond Arena.

Both teams have identical 3-7 records in America East this season. The Retreivers are 9-13 overall, and Maine is 8-15.

Maine forward Sean McNally has been hot of late, finishing with a fifth double-double of the season against Stony Brook on Tuesday with 15 points and 10 rebounds.

UMBC is led by Darryl Proctor who is scoring 19.7 points per game and grabbing 8.6 rebounds per game.

Make that 15

If you haven't followed University of New England hoops in a while, might be a good time to get going.

The Nor'easters just picked up their 15th straight win over Western New England on Saturday 79-66.

That's the second longest current streak in the country among NCAA Division III teams.

UNE is 16-3 overall and ranked first in The Commonwealth Coast Conference standings with a 7-0 mark.

A former Portland Pirates beat writer who has covered two winter Olympics for the paper, Jenn will expand her beat this year to include the University of Southern Maine, St. Joseph's College, Bowdoin College, the University of New England, and Southern Maine Community
College.

She will continue to cover the
University of Maine Black Bears, the state's only division one program.
