Weekly Awards
Men's soccer midfielder Peter McHugh of Portland was named the Little East Conference Offensive Player of the Week after scoring three goals and assisting on two others last week.
McHugh scored two goals and an assist in the Huskies' 5-0 non-conference win
over Thomas College on Sept. 23, then scored again and assisted the game-
winner in a 2-1 OT win over UMass-Boston last Saturday.
McHugh is the Huskies leading scorer with 22 points, 9 goals, 4 assists.

Turcotte's moment
Lewiston's Jared Turcotte was named the CAA Rookie of the Week this morning
following his coming out party of sorts in Maine's 24-10 loss to James Madison on Saturday.

With star tailback Jhamal Fluellen out of the lineup due to injury, the Black Bears turned to Turcotte to spark its running game.
He quickly flashed a physical presence running the ball and snapped off 82 yards on 11 carries - an average of 7.5 per carry.

Maine football
The Black Bears (2-2, 0-1 Colonial Athletic Association) will be hosting the No. 1 team in the Football Championship Series on Saturday when James Madison (3-1, 1-0) comes to town for a 6 p.m. kickoff.
JMU, which was ranked No. 5 last week, trailed 21-0 at halftime against No. 1 ranked Appalachian State on Saturday and returned to beat the 2007 FCS National Champions 35-32.
The win catapulted JMU up the rankings this afternoon to No. 1.


JMU is led by QB Rodney Landers(far left) who ran 20 times for 113 yards and two touchdowns during JMU's second-half surge. He also completed 7 of 13 passes for 96 yards and a touchdown.
JMU's come-behind-win was spearheaded when Scotty McGee (left) returned the opening kickoff in the second half 99 yards for a TD.
The win allowed the Dukes to avenge a first-round playoff loss to the Mountaineers in 2007.

Bowdoin football
When the Polar Bears open the 2008 football season Saturday at Middlebury College at 1 p.m. head coach Dave Caputi will square off against his former teammate Bob Ritter who coaches the Panthers.

Caputi ('81) and Ritter ('82) were teammates at Middlebury in the early 1980s.
The duo have faced each other three times with Ritter holding a 2-1 edge.

Lobstah
Six lobsters from Maine arrived at ESPN studios in Bristol, Conn. this morning, as promised by University of Maine football coach Jack Cosgrove.
Cosgrove promised the lobsters to the hosts of the "Mike and Mike in the Morning Show" Mike Greenberg and Mike Golic as thanks for the publicity Maine received from "Battle of the Butter" hoopla over the weekend.
A show producer confirmed with Maine staff they had arrived safely.

Fall standouts
Fall sports are in full swing at Maine's small colleges, so here's a little smattering of some athletes who are standing out already.
Bowdoin field hockey star Lindsay McNamara landed in SI.com for her prowess on the field. She is the all-time leading scorer in school history with 71 career goals.

At USM senior goalie Alison Bradley of Auckland, New Zealand has been named the Little East Conference Women's Soccer Goalkeeper of the Week. She made 22 saves on her way to a 1-1 record with a 1.00 goals against average in the first two games of the season.
Gabby Cyr of Fort Kent and Tyler Jasud of Rumford have been named the Little East Conference Women's and Men's Cross Country Runners of the Week.
Cyr, who joined the team last fall, won the University of New England Cross Country Invitational in a time of 21 minutes, 5 seconds.
Jasud won the same meet at hilly, five-mile Rotary Park course in Biddeford, Maine in a time of 28:01 for his second win of the year.

That's a wrap
"Battle for the Butter" hoopla came to a close this morning after Maine football coach Jack Cosgrove was interviewed on ESPN's "Mike and Mike in the Morning."
Cosgrove recapped the game, made a few jokes and offered up a six-pack of Maine lobsters at the end to the Mikes.
In case you missed it, Cosgrove came on about 18 minutes into third hour of the show (listen here).

Maine head football coach Jack Cosgrove will be a guest on ESPN Radio's Mike & Mike in the Morning on Monday at 8:25 a.m. following Maine's 28-13 win over Stony Brook in the "Battle for the Butter."

Maine football wins home opener
Maine (2-1, 0-0 CAA) beat Stony Brook (1-2, 0-0 Big South) 28-13 in its home opener Saturday night on the new turf at Alfond Stadium.
Quarterback Adam Farkes completed 12-of-22 passes for 148 yards and four TDs.
The win puts Maine in good position it heads into its CAA opener at Richmond next week.

Battle for the Butter
So while most college football fans will be tuned into USC-Ohio State Saturday night for what has been dubbed the "Collision at the Coliseum" there is another little game with its own catchy title being played in Maine.

Well the hosts on ESPN Radio's "Mike and Mike in the Morning" were having a little fun on Thursday and picked a game at random off the college football schedule then asked viewers/listeners to name it.
