USM/St. Joe's baseball

The Huskies made it nine straight wins with a 19-4 wallop over Plymouth State on Tuesday night.

USM leads the Little East standings with a 21-3 overall record, 5-1 in league play.

During a 14-run second inning USM sent 19 batters to the plate highlighted by a
grand slam by senior Ryan Pike of Saco, Pike's fifth homer of the season.

St. Joe's:

The Monks are 21-9 after a pair of wins against Thomas College on Tuesday at home, 15-5, 8-1.

Scarborough's Kevin Chamberlain threw six innings in the opener, giving up just four earned runs.

Sam Murray earned the win in Game 2, allowing just six hits in five innings.

Winterport's Pat Moran went 6-for-7 at the plate with two home runs, four runs scored and five runs batted in during the double header.

• These two non-conference in-state rivals meet in Gorham at 3:30 p.m. Thursday for their first of two games this season. They play again April 29 in Standish.

A former Portland Pirates beat writer who has covered two winter Olympics for the paper, Jenn will expand her beat this year to include the University of Southern Maine, St. Joseph's College, Bowdoin College, the University of New England, and Southern Maine Community
College.

She will continue to cover the
University of Maine Black Bears, the state's only division one program.
