Hot start for USM baseball

The Huskies are 8-1 out of the gate this year, and haven't dropped a game since Game 2 of a doubleheader on opening day.

USM's latest win came Monday via a solo shot in the bottom of the eighth by Chris Burleson, a former Deering standout.

Burleson's one-out dinger broke a 6-6 tie to give the Huskies a 7-6 win.

USM's results so far:

• March 14: Old Westbury W 14-6, Farmingdale State L 10-9
• March 15: Albertus Magnus W 5-1
• March 19: Johns Hopkins W 12-7
• March 20: Springfield College W 5-4
• March 21: Roger Williams W 12-7, W 10-6 (doubleheader)
• March 22: Hamline University W 16-9
• March 23: Middlebury W 7-6

(All games have been on the road so far)

USM is scheduled to open at home next Tuesday at 3 p.m. against Bowdoin College. It is unclear if the field will be ready by then.
