How bout that softball team?

After going 0-28 to start the season last year the University of Maine softball team is off to a 15-11 start and was on a 10-game winning streak until this afternoon.

Maine beat Sacred Heart this morning 1-0 then lost 3-2 to Southern Illinois-Edwardsville in Game 2 of a doubleheader.

The team's latest wins:
Tuesday: 6-4 over Penn
Tuesday: 10-4 over Bryant
Wednesday: 1-0 over Sacred Heart

At the plate Maine is being led by Alexis Souhlaris who is batting .342 with 18 RBIs and Ashley Waters who is batting .321 with 17 RBIs.

Souhlaris is also 3-2 with a 2.23 ERA from the pitching circle.

She was named America East Player of the Week yesterday after going 2-0 with a save and 0.46 ERA in that span of 15.1 innings.

A former Portland Pirates beat writer who has covered two winter Olympics for the paper, Jenn will expand her beat this year to include the University of Southern Maine, St. Joseph's College, Bowdoin College, the University of New England, and Southern Maine Community
College.

She will continue to cover the
University of Maine Black Bears, the state's only division one program.
