Who needs Nebraska?

The ink's not dry on this yet, but Maine has scored running back/linebacker Shawn Bodtmann out of West Scranton, Pa. for next season.

He's 6-foot-5, 205 pounds and can run the 40 in 4.58 seconds.

Nebraska apparently dropped a scholarship offer to Bodtmann in late January, a week before the national signing period.

Unclear exactly why this happened, but this story in the Times Tribune mentions a production drop in his senior season from an injury.

Bodtmann helped lead West Scranton to the District 2 Class AAA championship in his junior year, rushing for 1,452 yards and 22 touchdowns but was injured in his senior season and gained just 389 yards with four TDs.

Writes Joby Fawcett: "His 4.58-second time in the 40-yard dash, size and strength, bench pressing 275 pounds, made him a sought-after recruit."

This story ran in the Omaha World Herald when Bodtmann was originally dropped.

Maine's coaches are off this week, but the sports information department confirmed Bodtmann is expected to be part of the 2009 recruiting class.

Hey Jenn.......Why don't you ask Cosgrove how the 2009 football schedule is coming along?

Is that why they still have 2 games left to schedule?.......oh well......maybe they'll go with 9 games in 2009.

Is that why they only have 9 games scheduled? Maybe it's a cost cutting measure.

Is that why they only have 9 games scheduled? I should have known that Blake James was behind the ineptitude!
