Farkes departure

Here is today's update on the QB situation up at Maine.

Basically Adam Farkes was granted a release and has plans to transfer down to a Division II or III school so he doesn't lose a year of eligibility.

It's still unclear exactly why he wanted to leave. Have tried to track down Farkes to speak to him personally about his decision to no avail. So unless we hear from him, his original quote is the only direct explanation.

He said in a statement Saturday: "I wish my teammates and the University of Maine program the best of luck in the future. It was tough, but in the end the best decision for me."

That leaves the program in the hands of Michael Brusko who went 6-2 this year, behind a six game winning streak that led to a playoff berth. Portland High standout Chris Treister moves up to No. 2 on the depth chart.

Otherwise all appears status quo with the football team for this time of year. Players are taking finals this week and heading home for the holiday's and coaches have already hit the road recruiting.

  • Elsewhere in FCS football, Richmond takes on Montana for the title game Friday at 8 p.m. in Chattanooga, Tenn. The game will be aired on ESPN2.

Richmond reached the final with a wild upset over Northern Iowa this past Saturday.

How many corrections to your spelling of "Chattanooga" have you received? It helps if writers know how to spell. Sets an example and all that, you know.
