Canary up for football's Draddy Trophy
University of Maine center Ryan Canary is a semifinalist for college football's prestigious Draddy Trophy and a candidate for a 2008 National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete Award.

Canary, a senior, is one of 43 FCS players honored from a total of 164 semifinalists from FBS and FCS teams.
The award recognizes an outstanding player for his combined:

Canary, a third year starter, anchors an O-line that has helped Maine finish in the top four in rushing in the Colonial Athletic Association for the past two seasons.
An All-CAA Football Second-Team player last year, Canary was named to the 2008 Preseason All-CAA Football Team this summer.
An education major, Canary has earned academic all-conference honors each of the past two seasons and taken part in greeting troops at the Bangor International Airport and visited the Ronald McDonald House during his time at Maine.
In his hometown of Point Pleasant, N.J., Canary was an Eagle Scout.
The award winner earns a 25-pound bronze trophy and a $25,000 post-graduate scholarship.
The list will be narrowed to 15 finalists on Oct. 29 and the winner will be honored Dec. 9 at Waldorf-Astoria in New York City.
