Bowdoin football

When the Polar Bears open the 2008 football season Saturday at Middlebury College at 1 p.m. head coach Dave Caputi will square off against his former teammate Bob Ritter who coaches the Panthers.

Caputi ('81) and Ritter ('82) were teammates at Middlebury in the early 1980s.

The duo have faced each other three times with Ritter holding a 2-1 edge.

kell1.jpgJunior QB Oliver Kell returns to lead the Bowdoin offense. He passed for 1,308 yards and eight TDs in his first full year at the position. He also ran for four TDs to lead the squad in scoring in 2007.

Bowdoin also returns All-NESCAC performer Kevin Zikaras, a linebacker who led the team with 76 total tackles in 2007.

A former Portland Pirates beat writer who has covered two winter Olympics for the paper, Jenn will expand her beat this year to include the University of Southern Maine, St. Joseph's College, Bowdoin College, the University of New England, and Southern Maine Community
College.

She will continue to cover the
University of Maine Black Bears, the state's only division one program.
