Maine football wins home opener

Maine (2-1, 0-0 CAA) beat Stony Brook (1-2, 0-0 Big South) 28-13 in its home opener Saturday night on the new turf at Alfond Stadium.

Quarterback Adam Farkes completed 12-of-22 passes for 148 yards and four TDs.

The win puts Maine in good position it heads into its CAA opener at Richmond next week.

For those of you following "Battle for the Butter" hoopla...

The win means Maine Coach Jack Cosgrove will be interviewed Monday morning on ESPN Radio's "Mike and Mike in the Morning" show.

Two different groups of Maine students fashioned large sticks of butter out of yellow cardboard and carried them around the stands.

And...most of the Maine hockey team could be found in the front rows with their chests painted - one letter apiece - to spell out: "Battle for the Butter."

To Ms. Jenn Menendez. University of maine has a Def. tackel named Eric Lee transfer student from Dean Junior college. He is an impact player and it's a matter of time before he is starting in the line up. This is a standout young man and a good football player. He is from my town, and I follow Maine Football. He has switched positions D/E to DT and because he is a first year player he's second in the rotation. Maine look out the kid from New Jersey is coming. He also is a academic AAA winner from Dean college and held a 3.5 GPA. When are the Black bears going too start this fast kid?? Time will tell. Fans from NJ- Watch out Spiders.

Maine H.S Football competition is so poor. I wnet to a few games this year after 20 years in Maine. the talent level is so slow. I fell bad but thats why none of the kids can play at U Maine. ( 1 player every 15 years). Maine kids have no heart.. unless they are transplants..
