Florida State in '09

The Maine football team will play Florida State to open the 2009 season, athletic director Blake James announced Thursday.

The game will be the Black Bears sixth straight against a Football Bowl Subdivision team.

  • Maine beat Mississippi State in 2004

    Then played:

  • Nebraska in 2005
  • Boston College in 2006
  • Connecticut in 2007
  • Maine opens at Iowa in 2008.

    A former Portland Pirates beat writer who has covered two winter Olympics for the paper, Jenn will expand her beat this year to include the University of Southern Maine, St. Joseph's College, Bowdoin College, the University of New England, and Southern Maine Community
    College.

    She will continue to cover the
    University of Maine Black Bears, the state's only division one program.
