Baseball's home(ish) conference opener

Maine baseball (9-13-1) is supposed to open the America East schedule this weekend with a four game series against Albany starting Friday.

For now, the plan is to play at Mahaney Diamond.

But if the forecasted soggy weather materializes, Bangor's Mansfield Stadium is on standby to host games Saturday and Sunday.

"It's a big time facility, with major league caliber infield, drainage, grass," said Maine Coach Steve Trimper. "What takes us five days, takes them 5 hours to dry out with the shape of the field."

Husson College - which has synthetic surface - would be a longshot backup if it gets really rainy. But that team has its own games this weekend.

Monday will serve as a mandatory make-up day if any games get postponed due to playing conditions.
