Staying alive

Maine shut out Vermont 3-0 Saturday night to stay alive in the hunt for the No. 8 Hockey East playoff spot.

Maine got 30 saves by goalie Ben Bishop and one goal per period from Wes Clark, Billy Ryan and Chris Hahn.

Maine needs to find a way to oust No. 8 Massachusetts in its final two games against UMass-Lowell next weekend.

I totally believe in this team and coach. Whitehead has done it before, and he will do it again. The regular season means nothing. Let the University of New Hampshire have their fancy regular season title (again) and their 12th straight 20 win season...I'll take a poor regular season and punch my ticket to the frozen four!

A former Portland Pirates beat writer who has covered two winter Olympics for the paper, Jenn will expand her beat this year to include the University of Southern Maine, St. Joseph's College, Bowdoin College, the University of New England, and Southern Maine Community
College.

She will continue to cover the
University of Maine Black Bears, the state's only division one program.
