Maine Hockey Loses 6-2

Maine lost 6-2 to Providence College at soldout Alfond Arena Friday night.

With about 5 to 10 minutes left in the game there was a mass exodus of a few thousand fans.

Why?
As Maine Coach Tim Whitehead said: "It was a good old-fashioned butt-kicking."

Maine was outshot 39-17, and gave up three power play goals.

Maine trailed 2-0 by 10:53 of the first period.
PC Goals: Pierce Norton, Jon Rheault

Freshman Andrew Sweetland tied it up.
Even strength: 12:25 of the first
Power play goal: 9:36 of the second.

PC went ahead on a shorthanded backbreaker at 10:47 of the second.
Matt Taormina from Nick Mazzolini

PC scored a trio of power play goals in the third to seal it.

A former Portland Pirates beat writer who has covered two winter Olympics for the paper, Jenn will expand her beat this year to include the University of Southern Maine, St. Joseph's College, Bowdoin College, the University of New England, and Southern Maine Community
College.

She will continue to cover the
University of Maine Black Bears, the state's only division one program.
