Jhamal Fluellen closing in on 1,000 yards

Maine tailback Jhamal Fluellen needs just 145 yards to hit 1,000 on the season. That would make him the 8th back in Maine history to surpass 1,000 in a single season.

The last Maine back to rush for 1,000 yards was Marcus Williams, who rushed for 1,077 in 2004.

Said Maine Coach Jack Cosgrove: "He's a tough kid. In his own quiet way he's given this team a tremendous amount of leadership."

His accomplishments are fairly remarkable. Fluellen transferred to Maine from Syracuse after surgery for a rare heart condition.
