Men's Hockey Returns to Polls

After a one week hiatus, Maine hockey landed back in the national polls this week.

Maine is ranked No. 13 in both the USA Today poll and the U.S. College Hockey Online poll following 4-2 and 4-1 wins over Mercyhurst at home.

Bret Tyler (3 goals, 2 assists), Wes Clark (2g, 2a) and Chris Hahn (2g, 1a) lead Maine in scoring.

Maine opens the Hockey East season this weekend with a pair of games at Northeastern (1-1).

Up after that: Boston College (1-1-2) followed by Providence (0-4).

It will be interesting to see how Maine handles the conference schedule the first half of the season. Maine yo-yo'd with Northeastern last year beating them 7-1 in December, then losing 6-1 in January. And that with a pretty veteran-heavy team.

This Maine team started six freshmen against Mercyhurst and another rookie in baseball-player-turned-skater Nolan Boike.

Just because Maine fell out of the USA today top 15 it does not mean that they were unranked the previous week. They were 17th in the USCHO poll, so they were ranked and your statement of returning to the polls is false. Holding any weight in the USA Todays polls is wrong as they don't cover college hockey and why they have rankings is beyond me.

Try again, Jim. What you wrote is incorrect -- The USA Today poll is actually voted on by coaches and journalists representing each of the conferences.

But not to worry. Your precious Black Bears are back in the polls after their sweep of perennial powerhouse Mercyhurst. Can't wait for the Black Bears to face New Hampshire.

Matt,
How many banners are hanging in Durham?
That's what I thought - so lose the sarcasm until there is one.

Some programs don't measure success strictly in terms of wins and losses. I'm proud to say my alma mater has never been involved in any NCAA scandals. It seems at Maine it's a yearly occurrence.

What a typical response when you have absolutely nothing else. Are they keeping score??
Save your "proud" speech for the rest of your wildcat buddies, because they're the only ones that will listen.
Oh nice backup quarterback you've got - no NCAA scandals, just a murderer awaiting trial.
Yeah you got us on that.

Monty, nice hypocrisy. Typical response? About as typical as your previous one. And if you want to get into discussing scandals, I have all day. We can talk about your football player caught with steroids, your drug dealing hockey player, your hazing softball team, etc., etc.

Yes, you got us, indeed!
