Hockey?!?

Though it is a gorgeous 80-something degrees down in Boston, today hockey officially started -- at least for us media types.

It was Hockey East Media Day down at the Fleetcenter, uh I mean TD Banknorth Garden.

Maine was picked to finish fourth in the preseason coaches poll behind New Hampshire and Boston College - which tied for first - and Boston University.

Maine will have a lot of new faces this year - 11 incoming freshmen to be exact - so it will be interesting to see if they can live up to that billing or not.

The season officially opens on Oct. 6. Maine will play an exhibition game that day against the U.S. Under-18 National Team.

I'll hazard a guess you'll see most of those freshmen in that game so the coaching staff can see what they have to work with.

No chance Maine threatens the powerhouse that is New Hampshire this year. Good luck on getting home ice this year, Black Bears.

Powerhouse???
UNH, or University of No Hardware has played hockey for over 80 years and NEVER won a National championship.
So I ask you sport - how exactly do you define powerhouse?? A perennial runner-up?
Don't waste this space with absolutely idiotic comments alright? The best and most consistent team in Durham is the woman's hockey team - deal with it Skippy!!
