A kind of Homecoming . . .

Defensive lineman Bryan Grier - all 344 pounds of him - will be especially pumped for today's 7 p.m. kickoff against Connecticut.

Grier, a native of Bloomfield, Conn., was briefly recruited by UConn before making his way north to Maine. Bloomfield is a mere 10 or so miles from East Hartford's Rentschler Field.

Grier, who won three state championships at nearby Bloomfield High, said UConn has made many strides since its I-AA days back in his youth.

"UConn is on the up and up," said Grier. "I know a lot of my friends and family will be there. The popularity has picked up."

Grier expects to have some 15 friends and family at the game cheering Maine on.
