Four former Maine football players from the past two seasons are still keeping the dream alive at various NFL camps.
New York Giants: Kevin McMahan had three receptions for 57 yards on Thursday night against the Patriots, including an 18-yarder in his first play in the fourth quarter. McMahan, Maine's top wide reciever in 2005, was selected by the Oakland Raiders as the final pick in the 2006 NFL draft (Mr. Irrelevant).
New York Jets: Defensive lineman Mike DeVito had two tackles and a sack for an 8-yard loss against the Eagles Thursday night. DeVito was an all-conference tackle for Maine last year.
Jacksonville Jaguars: Montell Owens remains on the roster. Owens, Maine's go-to tailback in the 2005 season, played for the Jaguars last year.
Tonight: Safety Daren Stone, playing with the Atlanta Falcons, will face center Mike Flynn ('97) of the Baltimore Ravens. Stone is arguably Maine's biggest loss from last year's secondary.
Remember this???
More cuts are expected over the weekend as teams prepare for the first week of the NFL season.
What about the Umaine player ARRESTED for steroids in his car on the way back from Mass. Mr.Cooper backup LB on the SD Chargers! I know its more than two years old but no one seems to remember that story.

I notice that the above comment posted on August 31 has no name for posting. Digging up two year old dirt when there is so much current good news about the Black Bears (see Solloway's article from 8/17 -- Touchdown Better Than Touchdown)is shameful and "sour grapes."
