House committee bends Pingree's gender
Poor Chellie Pingree. A freshman in Congress just gets no respect.
When the Democrat from Maine's 1st Congressional District walked into her first meeting of the House Armed Services Committee, she found a nameplate in front of her seat that read "Mr. Pingree."
The committee staff quickly found her a new nameplate that properly reflects Pingree's feminine gender. But somehow the Mr. Pingree tag found its way back onto the table when Pingree showed up for a Seapower Subcommittee meeting Tuesday.
She joked about it on Twitter, the social networking site. "So I was the only woman member at the Armed Services Committee today but this might be too much," Pingree said in a tweet.
Pingree even posted a photo.
In her young House career, which began Jan. 5, Pingree is creating quite a Twitter legacy. A text posting she made on March 6 was chose as Tweet of the Day by The Hill, the popular insider newsletter for followers of Congress. Here it is:
"Riding in Congressional elevator, discussing best rubber soled shoes..it's walking in the tunnels that hurts..not passing budget hurts more."
