How it was

We're coming to you live from the inauguration. I had a few technical difficulties due to the fact that a ba-jillion people are around the Capitol today and they all have some sort of wireless device.

This is going to be a little rough, so bear with any typos.

11:00 -- the new president's cabinet begins to enter the front steps of the Capitol

11:11 -- the vice presidents of the past enter along with their wives

11:15 -- the march of former presidents begins with Jimmy Carter, along come the Clintons - must this be awkward for Hillary?

11:16 - here comes George HW Bush, new buddies with Bill of course. Maybe that's more awkward.

11:24 now come the children, Joe Biden's grandkids, and a preview on the jumbotron of Sasha and Malia

11:26 Michelle Obama's mother accompanies her granddaughters onto the world's biggest stage. Literally. Big roar from the crowd. Could she be one of the world's most famous grandmothers

11:27 -- Laura Bush and LynnE Cheney, along with an odd assortment of cabinet members and other wives, such as the chief justice's wife?

11:29 -- my god, the "O-ba-ma" chant just cascaded down the mall.. These people are ready

11:32 - Michelle obama and Dr. jill Biden, also Mr. Pelosi and Mrs. Reid are on their way out onto the stage. I wish I knew a better term for whatever the big staging area where Congress, dignitaries, the EX Prez squad and the Obamas are located. Someone got a name on that?

11:34 -- I am suddenly made aware that I have not gone to the bathroom since I left the hotel this morning at 6 a.m. Suddenly the cold is not so bad.

11:35 a lull in the action and the crowd gets restless, starts chanting OBAMA

11:45 - the entire inaugural party has reached the stage

11:46 -- Diane Feinstein welcomes the crowd to the 44th inauguration
and reminds us that the world is watching today.

Feinstein: "the work is not yet finished but future generations will mark this as the turning point for necessary change for our nation"

11:48 - controversial pastor rick warren takes the stage to gentle applause and no boos?

Warren: "Help us oh god to remember we are Americans not united by race, religion or blood but our commitment to freedom and justice for all"

Help us oh god to remember we are Americans not united bny race, religion or blood but our commitment to freedom and justice for all

11:58 - Joseph Biden is now your Vice President of these united states. He managed to not say anything or make weird faces.
