Cote snags endorsement of vets' group

Democrat Adam Cote announced this afternoon that he's gotten the endorsement of the Council for a Livable World's Veterans' Alliance for Security and Democracy.

The group said in a letter that it based the endorsement partly on Cote's answers to a series of questions about foreign policy, veterans' issues and civil liberties. The letter also states that Cote's status as a veteran was a factor in the group's decision.

The group, known as VETPAC, states on its Web site that its mission includes efforts to reduce the national debt, to ensure dignity for veterans, and to end policies that alienate allies and diminish the United States around the world.

VETPAC has endorsed 21 congressional candidates in the 2008 election cycle, 17 of whom are veterans, and all of whom are Democrats.

Cote is one of six Democrats and two Republicans in the race to succeed outgoing Democratic Rep. Tom Allen, who is leaving the 1st District seat to challenge Republican Sen. Susan Collins.
