Petraeus Hearing
On Tuesday, Army Gen. David Petraeus and Ambassador Ryan Crocker testified before the Senate Armed Services Committee. There's a lot of coverage in today's newspaper and in other papers from around the country.
The hearing room in the Dirksen Senate Office Building on Constitution Ave., across the street from the Capitol, was jam packed. Here's a good look at the types of people - besides reporters and congressional aides - who attended the hearing.
Below is my time line.
9:24 a.m. Petraeus and Crocker enter hearing room.
9:30 a.m. Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., enters the room and photographers flock to her.
9:31 a.m. Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., walks in and photographers flock to him.
9:36 a.m. Chairman Carl Levin, D-Mich., gavels the hearing to start and women from Code Pink dressed in dark robes with silvery painted faces begin humming something that sounds like American the Beautiful.
New York Times Columnist Maureen Dowd sits down next to me.
9:52 a.m. McCain begins his questions to Petraeus and Crocker.
9:55 a.m. Protesters begin shouting "End the war!" and they are admonished to keep quiet. McCain says that, "Mr. Chairman, I have had this experience previously."
10:51 a.m. The first protester is hauled out of the room for shouting, "Bring them home, bring them home."
