Ranking the Maine delegation

The research group Knowlegis released its annual rankings of lawmakers based on various criteria to demonstrate power and effectiveness in 2007 and 2008.

The rankings are based on position, indirect influence, legislative activity and earmarks.

Republican Sen. Olympia Snowe ranked 52 and Sen. Susan Collins ranked 68 out of the 100 senators.

Democratic Reps. Tom Allen ranked 109th and Michael Michaud ranked 317th out of 435 members of the House.

The researchers also said they considered a "sizzle" factor and admitted that the rankings are inexact because they do not take into account other measures of effectiveness.

Still, it's a fun list to peruse and it's much talked about on Capitol Hill today. Here are the rankings for Maine's congressional delegation.

That's the kind of comments I like, one that criticizes without reason and the other that just makes no sense whatsoever while also being wrong. Congrats, guys! You win the Comments Gold Star!

Collins (who takes advantage of every free trip the government has to offer) and Snowe (who paints herself as caring for the elderly yet never responded once to many requests for help in sorting out the medicare changes on behalf of a group of seniors) are both great at looking busy, but what have they done really? Notice they only vote against Bush when they know the bill will lose anyway. Clever, huh?
