What explains so called Maine media critics' obsession with the editorial minutiae of the Portland Press Herald?

Because newspapers matter. Because GOOD newspapers can make a difference between an apathetic community and one that is bonded together. Because a lot of "media critics" are people who used to work at the PH, never worked there but wanted to, or have issues with someone who does or did work there. Because the PH is a big fish in a small pond, and therefore an easy target. Because nobody wants to see the PH go away.
