The Party Line
When reading reports about Scott McClellan and his accusations of lies and deceit from the Bush administration leading up to the Iraqi invasion, the only surprise I have is that some people still express surprise. The propaganda campaign that led up to the Iraqi war was never based on truth but simply a successful effort by this administration to support their own political agenda. Most of the Washington insiders on both sides of the aisle fell in step and feared to state the truth as if it was a reading of the Emperors New Clothes. The soldiers of our armed forces were simply pawns in a political game where American lives were not as important as polling results. The thousands of dead and injured soldiers were considered an acceptable price by Bush and Cheney to entertain themselves with a little war.
White House press secretary Dan Perino states that Bush is "puzzled - he doesn
't recognize this as the Scott McClellan he hired and worked with for so many years". Bush is not used to "his" people telling the truth and is simply puzzled when he hears it. This administration continues to lie to the country and considers it to be business as usual.
I can only hope that as accusations are made against Iran that the American people will have the courage to question authority. The rest of the world has learned not to trust anything that comes from this presidency. The harm done to America by Bush's little game of politics will take years to be repaired if it ever can be.

I am in complete agreement. The "revelations" in McClellan's book should not come as a surprise to anyone who has kept up with current events for the past 7 years. Remember the Downing St. memos? The book is mainly confirmation of the behavior of this administration that has been evident for a long time now.
Let us hope that the next administration, be it Republican or Democrat, will work to restore the trust of the American public and the reputation that has has been so badly damaged by this adminstration.

The Administration AND Congress made the decision to invade Iraq based upon intelligence provided by both domestic and foreign sources. Where was the lie?
The leader of Iraq certainly provided cause for concern by his actions in invading Kuwait, building his stockpile of materials for weapons of mass destruction and actually employing chemical weapons in his war against Iran and also in at least one incident against people in his own country.
The concept that the President and Vice President "entertained" themselves with a "little war" deprecates our Nation and the sacrifices that so many have made, not to mention cutting Congress out of the picture entirely and showing disrespect for the numerous other nations who have provided support for the people of Iraq with personnel and materials.
Finally, professional military people (which is what our current volunteer forces consist of)take an enlistment oath to defend the Constitution of the United States and accept the responsibilities that go with their promise. To be labeled "pawns" is an insult to their courage, ethics and professionalism (yes, I have served in the military)

I find it interesting that you haven't heard about PNAC. One thing I have learned after working in various capcities for the Federal Govt is that you don't screw with the inner circle. McClellen was probably smart enough to realize that they will eat their young or as we used to say; "though you under the bus," no questions asked.
As far as loyalty is concerned, McClellan will be shredded personally because the truth of what he is saying can't be denied. The messenger will be slaughtered and life will move along. He will be yesterdays trash. Remember Paul O'Neill? He warned us so many years ago. http://thepriceofloyalty.ronsuskind.com/
