Miracle Gro Recall
Posted by Elizabeth Kellett

Last month the EPA ordered Scotts Miracle Gro to stop selling and distributing several of its products after it violated federal law. This report has been widely ignored by the media even though the EPA acknowledges that the risks posed by these products are unknown and they are currently conducting lab analysis of the affected products.
The illegal products include:
*Miracle Gro Shake 'n Feed with Weed Preventer All Purpose Plant Food (EPA Reg. No. 62355-4)
*Scotts Bonus S MAX (EPA Reg. No. 538-301)
*Scotts Turf Builder MAX (EPA Reg. No. 538-299)
*SLS Fertilizer with .28 Halts (EPA Reg. No. 538-304)

The EPA has issued stop orders to nine magor retailers including: Wal-Mart, Lowes, Home Depot, Do-It-Best, Ace, Sams Club, True Value, K-Mart and Meijer.
If you are an unfortunate consumer that has purchased one of these products, Scott asks you to NOT USE the product or return it to the store. Instead store it in a cool dry place and call Scotts at 888-295-0671 or visit their website at www.scotts.com for instructions on returning the product to them. Have fun!! Or contact the EPA National Pesticide Information Center at 888-858-7378 or visit their info online at www.epa.gov/reg5rcra/ptb/news/.
Forget the smiling child smelly the flower on TV in the Scotts comercial and wise up people! There are better ways to a green lawn. Look for ORGANIC lawn care products and don't be fooled by the slick advertising. The worms, the robins and your grandchildren will thank you!

What law(s) did Scotts violate?

Who's doing the analyses - the EPA or Scotts?

Sorry - I had trouble with this original posting and apparently deleted a paragraph! Two of the products were illegal because they were never registered with the EPA and display invalid reg. numbers on the labels. The other two were distributed before they were registered, a clear violation of Federal law.
The EPA and the Ohio Dept. of Ag. are conducting a lab analysis of these products.
