Let the Games begin
Well, first day of competition and I guess it qualifies as a blue sky day. It's a pale blue, with the sun shining weakly, but it's better than the gray we've seen the last three days.
And it's still really hot and humid. Temperature in the low 90s. Watching the cyclists on the road course, I'm inspired that they can continue through it.
Not much going on for me today. The first Mainers begin at 5:20 a.m. Sunday (your time, not mine, that would be cruel) with the rowers: Anna Goodale of Camden, Elle Logan of Boothbay Harbor and Wyatt Allen of Portland.
Finally got a good night's sleep last night after opening ceremonies, although my head didn't hit the pillow until about 3 a.m.
Weren't the ceremonies fantastic? The fireworks, the way they lit the torch. By the way. The torch wasn't connected to the roof of the stadium when ceremonies began. Some time during the festivities, while everyone's attention was on the field, they hooked it up.
What magic.
Got a couple of stories to write while you sleep. Hopefully I can get out and explore a little later on.
