Junior Nation: Where are you?

Yesterday I was doing some reading as I always do. I read one of my friend's blogs: Hopelessly Devoted: Dale Earnhardt Jr. Changes His Tune And Gets The Love Treatment From Fox. I was surprised by the number of comments over there, or should I say the lack of comments. He did write about Junior, right? I would have thought there would have been many more comments. Where in the heck is Junior Nation?

Junior20516081.jpg

There's been scores of blog entries and columns around Junior causing the wreck at Daytona but I'm not seeing many comments anywhere, or at least the number I am used to seeing around him as the topic. It used to be that if someone mentioned the name Junior, there would be droves and droves of comments.

Is it possible that even Junior Nation knows what a brain-dead move he pulled in the Daytona 500 race? Are you guys hiding under some rock? Where are you? Come out, come out wherever you are.... Tell us what you think. Make up some excuse for him like you always do when he does something wrong. I enjoy reading some of your comments more than I enjoy reading the articles themselves. They're sometimes hilarious.

Junior30616081.jpg

The economy may hinder some from attending a race but seriously, you must still be reading about NASCAR and NASCAR's most popular driver, right? Cat got your tongue?

I do like Dale Junior. I consider myself a fan and always want him to do well in every race. The same is true for me with Clint Bowyer, Juan Pablo Montoya and Jamie McMurray. But if one of them should do something wrong on the track, I have no qualms about admitting it. I think that's the difference between me and the Nation.

Bring that passion back, Nation. I want that fire back. NASCAR needs it.

I dont consider myself jr nation. but i still cant believe that you think jr caused the wreck. watch the video vickers forced him to the apron after running into his right front first. cars dont handle well on the apron at 190mph. Also, you made the comment about jr being too aggressive for that point in the race....the teams figured they had 10 laps left of racing before the rain came. If i remember right Kenseth won a rain shortened Daytona. hmmm. While im at it, does anyone remember how Vickers won at Talladega a few years ago. I dont remember near the finger pointing on that one. i havent heard anyone beating up the biff for his brain stutter moment in the pits, with a winning car at California.

he just claims to be JR not the best race car driver ever. I think the media (blogs included) need to stir this stuff up to keep busy.

How about talking about how remarkable it is that a rookie crew chief has won 2 in a row.

Because Junior Nation doesn't respond to garbage.

Junior was having a bad day. Any other day and I think he would have waited a little bit and came up on to the track and nothing would have happened. It just was upset that he got ran down below the line and got tapped in the front when Vickers came down. He then just came up and what ever happened, happened. I am sure he will think better next time, but give him a break, He is not the one saying he is so good. We are.

Drivers make mistakes ALL the time. The media decided to savage Jr over this one. I am 'tired' of non-Jr fans, media and other drivers bashing Jr because he is popular. It's not worth responding to the crying that the media is doing. We're 9 days past the incident. When will the media shut up?

Junior Nation is tired of hearing this same old crap for over a week now. He wrecked its over. We had another race. MOVE ON!

I agree. Daytona is over, let it go. I am sure we will have another controversy soon enough.

I'd like to know why there have been so many Hendrick motor failures this season.

I wish Nascar would dump that California race. Give it back to the Rock. Rockingham always had good racing.

I wish Angie Harmon had not been invited to wave that green flag.

I wish Rowdy had made the sweep even though I am happy for Matt.

I've said it once and I'll say it again- Jr screwed up at Daytona. He just wasn't with it and wrecked half the field. DW called him on it in the pre race interview at Cali. He told Jr that he seemed out of it and Jr admitted it. I don't know what his problem is and I really don't care. He better get it fixed before he wrecks anybody else.

California had to be the most boring race I have ever seen. I have watched Talledega go caution free. That was a hundred times more exciting than Cali.

Blickensderfer [sic] is not really a rookie crew chief. He had a spectacular season with Edwards last year in Nationwide. Same system, different car. Nonetheless, he works well with Kenseth apparently.

Where? you ask.

From one brain-dead move to yours . . ."Make up some excuse for him like you alwasy do when he does something wrong."

What fan base in their right mind would take the time to respond to such ridicule.

I don't believe Jr made a bonehead move. He was forced to the grass and he tried to get back on the track. If going down on the apron didn't slow him up enough to miss Vicker's car, then he had a really good run on him. We always hear the drivers say that you don't let up on a super speedway. Especially when you're running in the pack and 3 wide. Jr was in a no-win situation. If he held his line, he and Vickers would have wrecked, causing "the big one". If he let up, he would have lost momentum and the cars behind him would have checked-up causing "the big one". It was a racing deal. Jr's instinct was to get back on the track, which he did. And Vicker's instinct was to block a car that had a run on him, which he did. It's bad for all the other drivers that got caught in the melee, but that's racing!

Quit trying to get hits on your blog. We are here and we dont have to come to Jrs defense. He did what he had to do. Kyle Bush wrecked numerous people in all three series last year but it wasnt a big deal
(Jr, Hornaday, Benson to name a few.
You all just love to stir the pot. What you guys dont get is we pull for Jr because of who he is, not what goes on at the track. I wont read your blogs anymore.

Dale Jr. has a lot of fans- which makes him prone to over analysis. Like some posters wrote above, the press doesn’t let anything he does go. Certainly had Vickers wrecked the field nine days ago, we still wouldn’t be talking about it. And he is a first rate class act- so his fans are going to give him a break cause he clearly loves them back.

Thus, I encourage folks to not over analyze- particularly a singular event at Daytona.

The broader evidence over years suggests he is a decent Cup driver. Average- just like most guys in the garage. Given great equipment, he’ll run something north of "decent" and win every so often. Candidly though, I’m not sure he gets more out of great cars than say Sadler gets out of some mediocre racing stock.

But equally clearly, he just isn’t among the current elite: Busch, Gordon, Edwards. Probably not in the next tier either: Burton, Biffle, Hamlin, etc. Those guys win and have realistic championship aspirations.

But he ain’t further south than that. He does have 18 wins. But be fair, three in four campaigns driving very good gear doesn’t cut it as an elite or even good driver.

No shame in that mind you. To be average in the top series is doing just fine. I mean, he won two Nationwide Championships- so obviously he isn’t bad. He’s a cut below elite.

Maybe this has more to do with NASCAR itself than Jr. With all the changes over the last few years, most of which are perceived negatively by diehard old-school fans, perhaps NASCAR has succeeded in turning those diehard fans into passive/casual fans. You might also add in the fact that with the current issues facing our country many fans have other things to get worked up about.

I'm sure you wrote for the hites on your site. If you would continued hits try and do a little bit of resaerch do for you start hitting the keys. DW's weekly article over at FoxSports.com last week was about Jr.'s mistake at Daytona and he had 45 pages, yes I said 45 pages of comments. If you want the attention of Jr Nation I'll get it for you if you can handle it.

You haven't heard from us because we refuse to dignify with a response half of the nonsense that's being written. This silly little blog entry qualifies as nonsense but I'm feeling charitable and made an exception and responded just for you.

Jenn,
I do believe that all of Dale Jr.s' fans realize that he is as human as everyone else. Not feeling good and making mistakes at Daytona is proof that he is just a human being. Humans do not perform at 100% when they are not "up-to-par". Why should Dale Jr. be any different.
It is so sad that the media and "non" Dale fans feel the need to knock his ability. There are no race car drivers that run in the 3 top levels that are not talented enough to be there. Their driving skills drove them into the elite series. Dale Jr. has two 'Bush' Championships and 18 "Cup" wins, including the Daytona 500 {what about the non-point races he has one!}. Those who bash him, when he has an outstanding resume, are only jealous of his success {plain and simple}. Get over it because it is what it is!
What I find even sadder is that Dale Jr. feels {a huge burden to carry} that he must justify his popularity. Why? The man has proven that he belongs in Nascar racing. He reminds me alot of Mark Martin; maybe there will be two of the greatest drivers of all times that never won a championship. I will not be disappointed because they are worthy drivers no matter!
Please Dale Jr., remove the excess weight that is in your
race car {the need to be a champion; you all ready are in our eyes because of the person that you are}. Please get in that race car and Relax, Have Fun, and Enjoy the Race. We are riding with you no matter the results. gail

P.S.You do have one of the best seats {love to be there, but not} in the house for a race, so why not Relax, Have Fun, and Enjoy the Race. gail

Junior nation is here. He was involved in a wreck that both parties were at fault in. We are over it, we are looking forward to the season, and we are tired of people taunting us, and criticizing us, just like you did in your article. The media is trying to drag this up and make as much out of it as possible. Let it go - you might sleep better at night!

You haven't heard from them because their king is proving more and more to be less than a good driver.

They know that Jr. was completely responsible for that wreck. The ones you have heard from are just too blindly dedicated to Jr. to admit that he was.

Posted by racinsince55

Facts have nothing to do with it when you are talking about blindly dedicated "fans". When you follow a very average driver who is where he is only because of his name, logic and clear thinking goes out the window. Years from now when someone mentions Jr., it will be responded by "Junior who?". He will have done nothing to be in the the record books and his fans will drift off to some other flash in the pan.

No, we're not "hiding under a rock" or "brain dead." We're saddened by all the venom coming from the "Jr haters." Why bother responding to their insane rants?
We're, also, not "blindly dedicated to Jr." We know him for who he really is. A fine young man, who doesn't have a mean bone in his body. Wish I could say the same for all you "Jr ranters."

JR. nation has decided not to help all you writers get hits, therefore more ads. All of you have jr. in your headling to get hits and we decided not to help. Everybody uses JR. and I think it is time he leaves nascar before it destroys him. Too much pressure is put on him because we the fans vote him most popular.

I am a big Jr. Fan. He was at fault in Daytona! But what driver has never been at fault in an accident. He was pissed, he made some bone head mistakes on Pit Road. He was embarassed! He had that fire in him to get back on the lead lap and try to win. So YES, he drove overly aggressive and in turn was part of a huge wreck. But, that is old school Nascar Racing! He does have some of Sr.'s blood in him. What would Sr do in the same situation?

Mad Kudos to justracethecar, you have a darn good point. I clearly remember the Talladega wreck that Vickers caused taking out Jimmie Johnson and Jr and nobody complained about that. During conversations with others after that Talladega race I was told I was whining because Jr was taken out. I was not whining, Vickers purposely wrecked those 2 and everyone says "thats just racing". Well what happened between Jr and Vickers in Daytona was in my opinion "just racing". Atleast Jr was man enough to apologize (even though it was not totally his fault), but we still haven't heard Vickers apologize for his Talladega stunt. Honestly, I would absolutely love to see Jr get the attitude of some of the other drivers and start putting them in the wall like his dad did. Go Jr Go!!!
