Stewart to attempt to qualify Hendrick car for Daytona Nationwide race
Yesterday, Hendrick Motorsports announced that Tony Stewart would try and qualify the No. 80 Hendrick Motorsports car for the Nationwide race at Daytona. He's won this same event three times...once for Joe Gibbs (2008) and twice for Kevin Harvick (2005 and 2006).
"After winning the season-opening Nationwide Series race at Daytona three times, we're going to try and get another one, this time for Rick," said Stewart, who has seven career Nationwide Series victories. "Hopefully we can go back-to-back for a second time and put the HendrickCars.com Chevrolet in Victory Lane. Rick and I have been friends for years, so it would mean a lot to me to get a win for him."
If Stewart makes the race, it would be his first appearance in a Hendrick Motorsports car. Hendrick has had three victories at Daytona in the Nationwide Series.
"Tony is one of the best drivers in the world," Hendrick said. "We know how terrific he is at Daytona, so I told the guys to build him a fast car and let him do what he does best. He's a great friend, and it's going to be fun to see him drive for Hendrick Motorsports for the first time."
Good luck Stewart.
Speaking of Stewart, this is how you know the season is just starting up:

He is actually smiling to the media, something that you never see. We'll revisit this photo later in the year, I am sure.
All for now.

Tony is sporting his corporate look. He's a happy man. You will see him smiling a lot from Victory lane.
The Stewart-Haas website will be up and running soon.

This is great. To have a super star run a race brings excitement to a Nationwide race.
As busy as Tony is, to take time out to run a Nationwide race, shows that the Hendrick connection is more than just supplying engines for Stewart-Hass.

Aw, come on, folks. Let's put things in perspective. Tony is promoting his company and stroking his ego. Hendrick is important and Tony is a good driver but this isn't important stuff. Bring it on. Daytona is coming soon.

Tony will also drive for Harvick's Nationwide team too, part time, in 2009, Cindy.

Burger King Corp. announced Wednesday that the company has signed a multi-year sponsorship agreement with Tony Stewart and Stewart-Haas Racing.
As part of the sponsorship agreement, BKC has two primary paint schemes on the No. 14 Sprint Cup car which will be featured at the July 4th Cup Series race at Daytona and the September 27th race at Dover. The company also has a personal services agreement with Stewart that includes appearances in commercials, restaurant promotions and at BKC sponsored events.

Why do I get the feeling that Stewart jumped at the chance to have that creepy Burger King hand him Whoppers in a commercial.
Director: That was good Tony. Let's take that cut.
Tony (mouth full of burger): I wasn't feeling it. Let's do it again.
Director: Tony, this was our fifth take!

While I don't know as much as my fellow bloggers on this website, I do know a lot about marketing and sales.. So, son of racefan, I agree with your observation. I rally would like to talk about the upcoming season for Sprint. I can go to several websites to get the info that is being passed on here. While I realize some of the bloggers really love to absorb all of this trivial info, I also think those bloggers should realize that most of us are pretty adept at finding the info on our own.

Word has it that Kyle Petty will drive the Rolex-Grand Am series this season. Car is being sponsored partly by Victory Junction. Does this mean he's using donors' $$$ to finance a race car?

Want a racing fix? Wreckreation Nation (Discovery Channel)will feature school bus racing tonight I believe on the figure eight track. Last week it was lawnmower races. The show is hosted by Dave Mordal who was a contestant on season one of Last Comic Standing. He's one funny guy. It's a pretty good show.
Walmart has nice Kyle Busch shirts that are not overloaded with M & M characters.
Newman and Stewart on For Race Fans Only, Friday night on QVC.
