He's in, He's out, He's back in...

Elliot Sadler had signed an extension to his contract with Gillett Evernham Motorsports through 2010 only to hear through the grapevine that they were going to put AJ Almendinger in the No. 19 Dodge this year.
That is, until Sadler called his lawyer and was going to sue for breach of contract. So now he's staying. It's funny how those legal contracts work. So what if he hasn't done squat for GEM? A contract is a contract. That simple. Don't you think GEM should have thought about his performance before signing him on through 2010? Seriously.

My favorite Nascar story is Kyle Petty blaming the downfall of his family business on moving from their hometown. Does he not think he could have been a big part of the trouble?
I don't think GEM has done much to put Elliot in a good car. BTW what ever happened to Erin Crocker?

OK, yes, I'm a Sadler fan...and will continue to be regardless of which team he's driving for, however, I do think GEM tried to screw him. He sucked in May when they re-signed him, just as he sucked the remainder of the year (crappy equipment, sorry crew chief, lots of reasons--he probably even gave up some times!) so why re-sign him? Some reports said there had been a discussion with him & GEM about making a change...was that before or after they had re-signed him? If it was before & they re-signed, no wonder he was ticked off. If it was after they re-signed, then they're dumber than people are trying to make Elliott out to be. I have alot of thoughts on this but none of us know the whole story. I just have a feeling that GEM will give him junk & then let him go due to performance. Sue them, yes, but not to get his ride back (even though he probably would not have a ride in 09)...sue them for the principle of breaching that contract. It's really a no win situation for anyone...especially his fans!!! JMHO!!!

Sadler has been racing for what, about 7 or 8 years at the Cup level? He has a handful of wins, but considering the quality of his equipment, it has been minimal success. He is not nor has he ever been a guy that is a threat every week. His 2008 run was met with many wrecked cars and damaged relationships with other drivers. I can see why a team that is under new management and possibbly in their final year of Cup racing might want to take a different approach with a new driver. Performance is written into the contracts and history has shown that it is grounds for dismissal. Sadler should be counting his blessings and try his best to have a career year.

I like Elliot. I'd like to know how some of these drivers get let go when others have a ride and a sponsor and just ride around every week and do absolutely nothing, Schrader for example. (Not picking on him, I like Schrader, too!)I'd just like to know how that works.

Popularity can beat performance any day, but then how is it that Bobby Labonte JUST got a ride for the season?
