Happy New Year to all of you. I hope the holidays were good for you all. It's been so long since I've written a blog that I feel a bit rusty. I just need to get back up on that horse, I guess.
The countdown has begun for the Daytona 500, 40 days to be exact. I'm getting excited. I'm so out of touch though. I've got to get familiar with racing again. When I take a break, I take a break. It's that simple.
But I'm back. I'll try to update an entry on a semi-regular basis from here on out.
Don't plan on seeing a different picture of me on this blog. I just don't want to go through it. Plus, I've grown quite accustomed to this one...although it would be quite easy for me to have a shot taken with a box of Hamburger Helper in one hand and a picture of Clint Bowyer in the other (much easier than traipsing through Portland with a life-size cardboard cutout!).
Are you in a Fantasy League? If you are, where do you go to get in one? I'm lost in that regard. Just curious what's out there.
And because this entry contains random thoughts... I was listening to Free Beer and Hot Wings talk radio this morning on the way into work as I always do and they were discussing the fight between Sharon Osbourne and Megan from Rock of Love Charm School. Producer Joe thought it was for real, the others thought it was staged. So I came into work to see for myself. What do you think?
I wouldn't mess with Sharon Osbourne. Just sayin.
If you're new to the blog, I don't really cover local racing. I only throw my thoughts out there on Sprint Cup racing and sometimes nationwide racing. If you are interested in keeping up to date with local racing here in Maine, I would highly recommend Travis Barrett's Green-White-Checker.
Anyone care to throw out any predictions for this season? Here are a few of my predictions:
-- Tony Stewart will not win as a team owner.
-- With the random drug testing that NASCAR has promised, someone will test positive for drugs. Now that I mention it, I think testing is supposed to start in the next week or so...
-- Juan Pablo Montoya is going to dominate this year. (okay, maybe not but I would love to see that)
-- Scott Speed will win Rookie of the Year.
-- I don't believe we will see much from young Joey Logano.
-- Kyle Petty will cut his hair.
-- Jeff Gordon will break his losing streak.
Would you care to share your predictions?
All for now. I'll be back at some point in the near future with another update.
Champs, Chumps and Sleepers is a good one, Marc. It's a really fun fantasy league. I won a $50 Visa card. Going to use it to buy a new Stewart-Haas shirt.
Tony will win as a driver owner, I think there is a lot of Chevy dollars there to make it happen.
Joey Lagono will run up front and maybe even win one. Look at the record Coach Gibbs has with his drivers.
Scott Speed will run fast.
Gordon wins a few.
Mark Martin will run in the top 5, but just not quite mean enough to win a cup. I mean come on, even JJ had to do some rubbing to win his.
Jr. will never stop his complaining in the car, soon people will stop calling it complaining and call it commanding, like his old man.
Bobby Labonte starts doing the Bill Elliot tour.
Edwards drives as hard as ever.
Kenseth has a little more to say this year.
The 18 team wont self destruct in the last 12.(that cant happen 2 years in a row, can it?)
DW still compares Nascar to the WWF.

Free fantasy leagues:
Finish Line Frenzy--myfoxmaine website
Finish Line Challenge--WCSH website
Gillette Young Guns--gillette.com
Pepsi Fantasy Racing---pepsi.com
Nascar Challenge----WHEB.com
Champs,Chumps, and Sleepers-onebadwheel.com
Yahoo Sports Fantasy Nascar
And a league that costs $$$ on Racingone.com, but the prizes are cash also. It's a difficult league because you can only use each driver a limited number of times and there aren't that many good ones to last all race season.
Tony Eury SR becomes Dale JR's crewchief by the second race and Dale answer to anything Sr says is either yes sir or no sir. He wins 9 races and the championship.
Jimmy and Jeff each win 4 races and finish second and third in the championship.
Mark Martin wrecks JR on the final lap to win the Daytona 500 and needs a police escort to leave the racetrack.
Jammie McMurray makes the chace and is the comeback driver of the year. He wins both road races.
Robbie Gordon wins the Dakar race and is so inspired that he wins 3 races, but finishes 2nd to Jamie Mac in both road races.
Logano and Sorrenson both are involved in wrecks in the first 5 races; they are replaced by Sadler and LaBonte, both of whom win a race.
Kyle and Carl wreck each other in the Daytona 500 in a wreck that takes out 15 cars and are put on a year's probation. They wreck each other in the next race and are suspended for the sseason. This lasts two weeks. Each of them go on to win 3 races, but fail to make the chase.
Michael Waltrip makes the chase, but has his hopes dashed when a foreign substitute is found in his fuel before the Homestead race and he is suspended for the rest of the season.
As to fantasy leagues: I recommend Scene Daily ( won a Jeff Gordon Driving School Ride) and any of the Frontstretch games.
What Jr. has done in the past doesn't matter. He isn't with the family buiness now. He has to follow a new boss's direction. So, my guess is he will get a new crew chief and keep his mouth shut.
Did you do your JG ride yet, yankeegranny? If so, where and how was it? If not, let us know when you do.Sounds like fun.
I believe in the contracts, Jr and Eury, Jr were a package deal to HMS. I still don't see the pair splitting up. I think instead, Rick will have Jr work on his communication skills.
If what you say is true about the package deal, racefan, then I guess we can kiss JR's championship good bye. Thanks for the info. I forgot that and I guess, in the end, Hendrix will protect his investment.
Smoke will win as an owner. Gets a win every year, most of the time. Kyle Busch will win 3 of first 10 races. Kyle Petty will cut his hair to raffle off for new car to drive at New Hampster Motor Speedway. Carl Edwards messes up back flop and breaks neck, becomes next Christopher Reeve like celeb.

Richmond has lowered ticket prices and Martinsville is offering interesting ticket packages.

About this blog:
I am hopeful that this will be a place where people can air their two cents' worth about a race, catch up on the gossip and share their opinions on the rules and regulations of NASCAR. I have always felt that there has been a need for such a place in Maine and that this blog helps to fill the void.
