The wacky things inside my head
Today is photo shoot day down in New York for Sprint Cup Series Champion, Jimmie Johnson. Remember this photo?

Jimmie Johnson and Chad Knaus
Seriously, let's hope and pray they don't do a repeat of this pose. I wrote about this wacky pose last year. You can bet I will have my laughs and likely will poke some fun at some of the pictures this year because that's what I do best.
So I'm here. I am alive. I've just been taking a break from the NASCAR scene. It was such a long season. I haven't read any news, read any blogs, or even been on jayski or nascar.com on my little break. I'm not even really ready now. But I did want to drop a line and say hello.
The NASCAR awards ceremony is Friday night. I plan on watching part of it and likely falling asleep but I'll have my dvr set to record the entire thing. It is being televised at 9 p.m. on Friday on ESPN Classic or you can catch it on Monday, Dec. 8 at 2 p.m. on ESPN2.
Are you planning on watching? I will report back on my thoughts of the event. My updates will be a bit sporadic on the off season. If you're signed up for e-mail updates, then you will know when I post a new entry. If not, come back every now and then to see what kinds of wacky things are going on in my head. I look forward to hearing your comments as well. (they are almost better reading than the posts themselves...)

Oh yeah, will be watching the awards.I hope they loosen up a bit this year. It used to be funny. The past few years everyone acted like they would get fined and docked points if they laughed or cracked a joke. Last year was a little better.
Stewart's speech will be tough. When the banquet is over,I am wearing my #20 shirts to a Home Depot and drinking a Schlitz as a toast to the end of a good team.
I already have my new #14 shirts picked out, Jen, you need to move on to an 88 picture.
Jimmie and Chad should do the same pose and hold up more fingers. They won it. Celebrate it.

Brian France wants the drivers to show more emotion, so maybe Jimmy and Chad should strike the same pose, only holding up the middle finger to him.

I think Jen should have a picture of Clint along side of her.

Banquet was a snoozer as usual. Jeez, isn't it supposed to be a celebration?
The new Chad-Jimmie picture on the corner of 48th and 3rd is in the Nascar.com gallery. They are just not hanging off the post this time.
How come Edwards left the banquet before Jimmie was honored?
2009 race schedule has switched NH back to the end of June date and Daytona back to July.
Several races towards the end of the year with no sponsors yet.

Tony Stewart will no longer host a show on Sirius radio. Wants to focus on his team.
Excerpt from his final, Nascar star studded show:
"Roger Penske, by phone, said he'd like to someday see Tony Stewart in one of his Indy cars. Harvick piped up that he thought Tony had gained so much weight he didn't think he could get into one. (Stewart retaliated by noting that Richard Childress had contributed to NASCAR's diversity program because "he hired Harvick.") Penske also said, "I want to get up on that stage"-at the Waldorf during Champion's Week, where the winning team owner receives his award."
Video and audio of Stewie Award acceptance speeches will be available on TSL soon.

Its all about down force, baby. Down force! Stewie usually sticks like glue to the track. Always complains that he is too tight.

Todd Berrier, crew chief for Richard Childress Racing’s Kevin Harvick, expects that his team will test at least 10 times next year despite NASCAR’s ban on testing at all tracks that host its Sprint Cup, Nationwide, Truck, East and West series.
Berrier expects his team will look at options such as the Virginia International Raceway and Heartland Park Topeka (Kan.) road courses, along with Rockingham Speedway in North Carolina and the half-mile Sandusky Speedway in Ohio. None of the facilities is covered by the ban.

So I just read the article on Nascar.com about Texas World Speedway possibly offering track time for testing and a thought occurred to me....What if a driver gets hurt testing at an outdated facility because Nascar won't allow testing. One of the better things that Nascar does is require a standard for tracks before their cars can compete. If a driver takes his car to a track that hasn't hosted a Nascar event in twenty years and knocks a wall down, who ultimately is responsible?

Nascar Scene held an online vote for driver of the year. Guess who won the fans' vote? None other than Kyle Busch. 10,316 for Kyle, 5,171 for second place Carl. Who would have thought it?
In case this message takes 3 days to post like it has been doing, Merry Christmas to all and may you all receive that Nascar merchandise you wish for.

If getting injured while testing at a non-sanctioned track was a big deal, they wouldn't allow drivers to drive whatever they want whereever they want during the season, would they?
Just my thought.
If I was the business manager for The Rock, I would have been visiting all the race shops the day after they banned testing offering up the track. It's close enough and many drivers are familiar with it.

I think drivers are at their own risk anywhere, son of racefan, even on Nascar sanctioned tracks. Otherwise, owners would not let the drivers go wherever they want and race on their off time, would they? I do not believe there is any kind of insurance plan for any of them unless they are buying their own.
Some recent interesting quotes:
Jeff Burton describing new policy on leniency toward drivers showing emotion:
"Seems like there's probation, double probation, and then there's double secret probation. I don't even know what it all means."
Humpy Wheeler on sagging ticket and tv ratings for Nascar:
" We've got to get back to our roots, back to putting donuts on the sides of cars and not making it a felony offense."
Junior:
" Line them up,race, and the guy that crosses the finish line first wins. If you got out-cheated, you didn't do your homework."

Thanks for everything, folks, and I hope I meet you on othere venues.

Whenever I've been to a race, me and everyone else there has always been good about sharing whatever we've got; drinks, food, toilet paper, whatever is needed. Just learned yesterday that beer, grilled food and propane can be used as a form of currency with the rate exchange going up or down depending on the time of day. Guess I will stock up on plenty of extras for next time.
