Phoenix thoughts
Before I start with my usual congratulations, let me start by saying that I was scanning nascarmedia for my pictures for the blog and happened upon this picture that stopped me right in my tracks:

David Reutimann and Phil Harris
It's Captain Phil Harris folks! He's only the BEST captain on the series, The Deadliest Catch. I love the whole crew on his fishing vessel the Cornelia Marie. By far the best, period. All I'm saying is this, if I had seen him in New Hampshire, it wouldn't have been pretty. I love this man.
Speaking of men that I like, how about Clint Bowyer in the Nationwide race? Seriously, I thought he was done for. He got involved in a wreck that sent him back to somewhere around 30th position, putting Carl Edwards in the point lead. I don't know how he did it but Bowyer managed to pull off a fourth-place finish and keep his lead in the point standings. Way to drive the wheels of it, Bowyer!
Okay, so now on to the Sprint Cup race from yesterday.

Congratulations go out to Jimmie Johnson for yet another victory...big yawn. I'm so sick of him winning though. This means that he only needs to finish 36th or better next week and the championship is his. It will finally be over.
Here are a few random thoughts during the race yesterday:
-- Is anyone surprised that Sam Hornish Jr. brought out the first caution? It looked like Hornish went into the corner a bit too hot and slid up and hit Elliot Sadler.
-- Martin Truex Jr. had to end his day really early because he ran out of water in the radiator. It was hot for too long and his engine blew up.
-- Scott Speed cracks me up. Did you see his interview after his wreck? Somebody needs to help him with his interviewing skills. And for God's sake, get rid of that damn flat-rimmed hat. Ridiculous.
-- If there has to be a rain delay, the one yesterday is the type that I like. Short and sweet. The rain delay was only 26 minutes.
-- I'm liking the facial hair on Dale Earnhardt Junior. Just sayin.
-- Jeff Gordon had some bad luck. The engine of his car started skipping and a valve spring broke. The engine finally quit. Gordon did not finish the race and had a 41st place finish. This was his 6th DNF of the season.
-- With about 7 laps to go, AJ Allmendinger shoved the nose of his car under Matt Kenseth who was stuck in his spot because Tony Stewart was on the outside of him. Allmendinger and Kenseth bumped and it sent all three of them spinning. The one who made out the worst in it was Tony Stewart who couldn't get his car fired back up. Stewart went a lap down, finishing 22nd.
-- Can you say, intentional? Clearly, Kenseth was all about wrecking Allmendinger after taking the checkered flag in retaliation for the earlier incident with him on the track. Only, he wrecked several other drivers as well. Juan Pablo Montoya, Joe Nemecheck, Bill Elliott and Tony Stewart all had damaged cars in the end because of Kenseth.
What did you think of the race? I would like to hear some of your observations.

I think it was obvious Johnson had the advantage is the best. YAWN. That was why I was hoping for another, namely Cousin Carl, to win the championship. I guess we have to give due where it is due, but it always nice to see a new face in the limelight as the best of 2008. I know it is a long shot, but I would love to see Carl win next week and get the trophy for being the best this year. Congrats to racefan and probably DW on their fantasy picks. What is the difference between picking the winner here and picking a fantasy winner??? Please emnlighten me, oh wise ones.

Gee, I messed up on that last comment, first line. Johnson had the advantage and is obviously the best of the best right now.

Well, that was kind of exciting racing even with another Johnson win. Saturday was good too.
Yay, for Kenseth though I am surprised. Matt is usually a pretty laid back guy and doesn't get too excited. Allmendinger might be glad Kenseth got there first instead of Tony. I'm sure Smoke had a few words for AJ. Isn't AJ hunting for a ride for next year? Good luck with that.
I'm wondering if Carl left Kyle B any "love notes" after the race.
I'll put up with Speed's hat. I don't want to see his painted toenails. Speed will be coached and spotted by none other than Maine native, crew chief Slugger Labbe.
I'd like to know how much the Sprint girl gets paid to be doused in Gatorade, Coke, Budweiser or whatever every week. She really got it yesterday.

Regarding the MK, AJ and Stewart incident, I feel bad for the folks in the back that got wrecked, but TS had it coming. He was due and to him I say TS, TS.

Fantasy leagues are not much different than this, MsBoogity except there are usually prizes and you collect points each week. There are fantasy leagues all over the place. Nascar.com has a few, ESPN,WCSH,WHEB,Fox Sports, Pepsi, and RacingOne have them. The one I had the same wins in as DW is either HEB's or WCSH's. They are both the same.In those leagues, you need to pick any drivers who you think will finish 1-10 each race. I get 25 extra points for any driver I pick who finishes in the exact place I put them. I put Jimmie as finishing first in both of those leagues this week and scored big points. Too late for you to play this year, but you might think about it for next season.
I manage to win something once per season. My very favorite prize of all so far has been a movie poster for the film "Dale".

Ms. Boogity my pick for the weekend was Matt Kenseth, not Johnson.

I'm not sure what your post means, DW. I picked Carl Edwards on this blog and do not play the fantasy leagues yet. So, I am not sure what you are telling me. Thank you.

I guess you didn't win with Kenseth, DW, in the fantasy league. I don't know anything about fantasy leagues. I read your and racefan's comments, and took into consideration your telling me your excellent record with the fantasy league, so I assumed you were succesful this week. I guess racefan scored big and you and I were wrong. ???

Boogity, you said Congrats on picking the winner to Racefan and DW. I said I didn't pick the winner, I picked Kenseth, Johnson won.

You still have next week to tie the score, DW. I doubt if Johnson will be the winner just because he doesn't have to. Depends on how he qualifies. He just needs to ride around and stay out of trouble which most likely will be all he'll do. Edwards is the one that will have to go for it right from the beginning just in case Jimmie has a bad day.
I wanted to pick Biffle last week, but saw how his weekend was going and changed my mind. Kenseth's luck hasn't been so hot this year either. Roush-Fenway drivers are very generous with their time for fans and are always somewhere signing autographs.
I just won another fantasy league prize--a $50 Visa card--for scoring the most points this week in "Champs, Chumps, and Sleepers".
This is a free game and lots of fun.It can be viewed at: onebadwheel.com
