Bristol thoughts
I walked in to our little Bristol party sporting my Jack Daniels hat as a good luck gem for my man, Clint Bowyer. There was only one request via text message from the host of our gathering...no M&M's. I would say based on the end result of the race my good luck hat and the ban on M&M's were a huge success.

Congrats to Carl Edwards for yet another win this season. The saying, what comes around goes around is true. I gained some respect for Carl Edwards for moving Kyle Busch out of the way to get the win. Edwards didn't do anything that Busch hadn't done so many times before. He nudged Busch, loosened him up enough so that he could get by. A bump and run. And the victory was his.
On Edwards' victory lap, Busch slammed Edwards a few times in the driver's door. Edwards had had enough and turned him. Now we must wait and see what type of penalties NASCAR gives them both.
Here are some other thoughts that I had while watching the race:
-- What in the heck was Dale Earnhardt Jr. thinking at the start of the race? Passing cars before crossing the start/finish line at the start of the race, who does that? Well he did. His head was certainly not in the game. Maybe he stayed up too late celebrating Brad Keselowski's win in the Nationwide race the night before.
-- As if I needed another reason to like Clint Bowyer. He says exactly what I am thinking. "Michael Waltrip is the worst driver in NASCAR. Period." That's what he said of Waltrip after Waltrip dumped Casey Mears and Bowyer got tangled up in it. I couldn't agree more.
-- I felt bad for Jeff Burton who was a victim of circumstance. Tony Stewart clearly took out Sterlin Marlin which led to poor Jeff Burton's wreck.
-- Poor David Blaney just cannot catch a break. I didn't see what happened to him though. Did you?
-- The biggest loser of the night? Kasey Kahne, who dropped three positions in the point standings.
Overall, I thought the racing was really good. What did you think of the race?

Casey Mears later accepted the blame for the wreck with Waltrip by saying he wasn't clear and his spotter told him that he was.

Guess I am not going to get any pats on the back for picking the winner again. Carl is hot! And I loved what he did to Rowdy! Going to be good racing in the next few weeks.

I just wanna know, how the heck did Dale Jr go 2 laps down? I knew he was 1, then when came time for HIM to get the lucky dog, Kurt Busch got it, Jr was 2 laps down? WTF?? And as far as the comment on Mikey... I don't know which race you all were watching, but that was NOT Mikey's fault!! Thank you very much!!

The most impressive driver of the race was David Ragan. He heard all week about how he sucked at Bristol, wrecked his car during qualifying, had to go to a backup and started 43rd, stayed on the lead lap and finished in 10th. That folks, is one heck of a night at the bull ring.

I like the racing at Bristol since they repaved it. I think it is so much better.
Participated in the Nascar Foundation Track Walk with DEI Saturday morning. Of the list of drivers who were coming, only one driver,McDowell, showed up. George Wilson, maintenance crewman, let me help him paint over some of the tire marks left on the wall from Friday night.
Thursday afternoon and evening was Family Race Night in Bristol. Lots of drivers out and about;Ambrose, Rusty, Bobby Labonte and all his crew,Kasey, Montoya, Stremme, Harvick,McMurray, Todd Bodine, and others. Also making an appearance was Ernie Irvan. It was good to see him.
The state line splits Bristol in half right through the city. There is a plaque on the center line in the road on State Street. You can stand over it and one foot will be in Virginia and one will be in Tennessee.
They also have a hauler parade through town and open the track after so that fans can go in and watch the trucks park. To park both Nationwide and Cup semis in the center of that short track takes a darn good driver.
Keselowski finally got excited! He's been so serious all the time. That was a good win.
Richard and Kyle Petty are campaigning at the tracks for John McCain.
We may be in the Guiness Book of Records for the most people doing a wave. We have to wait for verification.
Every time I go to a race, I learn something new. This weekend I found out that M & M's stands for "More Magnets".
Hornish took the air off Marlin's car, Marlin scraped the wall slowing him down just enough for Tony to hit him. Burton was all safe and slowing down to get by, but Nemechek didn't slow down and slammed Burton.
It wouldn't be Bristol without temper tantrums.
Jeff Gordon was mad at Smoke and said if he could catch him he'd be sorry. Tony called him a prima donna.
I think Edwards may have shot himself in the foot. If he had just been a little more patient, Kyle's tires were going away and he was having a difficult time keeping the car on the bottom. Why is it if some drivers bump someone out of the way, it's aggressive, but if others do it, it's not? Cousin Carl does his share of bump and run and then plays all innocent and thinks if he smiles pretty and says he's sorry it's alright. Nascar dictators may ignore leaving a tire mark on a door, but they really frown on retaliation. Wasn't it about this same time last year when Carl was going to beat up Kenseth?
I know how frustrated Edwards has been to finish behind Busch and I have suspected Kyle has been messing with him. It looked that way Saturday night.
Not to beat an old horse to death, but dyno tests from last week are inconclusive, and Kurt Busch's Dodge appears to have had the most horsepower with Kyle's Toyota coming in 4th. To penalize the drivers is wrong. Nascar approved the Toyota engine package. Another case of Nascar making up the rules as the season goes on.

Cousin Carl didn't apologize and play dumb. He came right out and said if that was the way Kyle wanted to play, he was game and would play that way, too. I loved it. I don't think Rowdy knew what hit him on that last love tap after the race ended. When Kyle tapped Carl, after the finish line, that was RETALIATION. So, let's see how Nascar calls this one, if they do at all.

First off, congratulations Ms. Boogity.
Carl edwards is on off the most aggresive drivers out on the track. I have seen him bump Bowyer, Jr., Kenseth, and now Busch. I'm sure I forgot a few. For him to say that he is going to race Kyle that way NOW is a little silly. I have also seen plenty of drivers rub another car at the end of a race, either for kudos or acknowledgment of a bad on track move. Where Carl crossed the line was by spinning Kyle. Nascar tends to frown on drivers wrecking other cars in a non green flag situation.
I don't think either of them deserve a penalty for it. What is Nascar going to do, subtract points? Frank Stoddard was on the radio this morning and put it best. He said that these guys run 1-2 most of the time, and now Carl has to know that Kyle put that one in his back. You don't know when it is going to get pulled out.
On a brighter note, did anyone see the article where Carl gave his Michigan trophy to the little boy in the wheelchair at the race?

racefan: I agree. Carl did go a little overboard spinning Kyle. I do think it might have helped with the arrogance factor, though.
From Jen: I don't think anything will help with his arrogance but I agree more with what you are saying in regards to the spin.

I agree with son of racefan. The spin may be frowned upon by Nascar. On the other hand, these two are tops in points right now and Nascar taking away points except for Chase ones is kind of ridiculous when they will all go away in another couple of weeks anyway. (Another reason to dislike the Chase concept.)
And, thanks, son of racefan, for the Stoddard update. I forgot to listen.
Kyle is Kyle, that incident won't scare him and there will be payback if the chance presents itself. Carl also may have to watch out for Busch's teammates. They are all pretty close at JGR. I am not too sure Carl has that kind of relationship with his teammates. I saw Bowyer and Harvick doubleteam Montoya last year at Bristol because of an incident during an earlier race.

son of racefan: I agree with your point about Carl going overboard spinning Kyle. BUT I think it is a good thing, letting Kyle know there is another aggressive player. Let the chase begin! What are the thoughts on JR? I honestly don't know what to think of his recent activity. Something is not right.

Carl vs. Kyle this year is so much better than watching Jimmie vs. Jeff last year. I think it is good for the sport to have a heated rivalry. Any one remember Earnhardt and DW?
Junior's been improved this year. Him and his team need to be smarter and not make mental mistakes. They are causing themslves unneeded frustration and it is getting old.
